Greetings, Okay, just got Poser 5... can I just combine my old runtime with my new runtime folders? Would that overwrite anything important? The reason I care... I have a ton of saved .pz3 files and I don't really want to have to repoint all the filenames to a new directory other than runtime. Anyone know? Thanks!

Oh... duh... I think I should mention that I did install Poser 5 in a different directorey than my old Poser 4... so I would literally just be copying over the runtime. Thanks!

You can link your old Runtime folder to Poser 5's Library. All your old stuff will then be accessible directly in P5. Think there was a detailed message earlier describing how to do this, but try right-clicking in the Library..go to the top of the file structure and try this

in the manual is instructions for linking your P4 library to your P5, no need to copy over that's one of the many slick new features in P5

NO... that's not the question... I don't just want them accessible. I need the .pz3 files to work... whicih requires that they be in the directory named "runtime". Otherwise, opening any .pz3 results in a bunch of file not found errors. Does that make sense?

Poser 5 is very literal when it comes to finding texture maps, but seems to be more forgiving for objs. To test this out with a pz3 file, I opened P5, then opened a pz3 file that was stored in my 'Poser 4:Misc:Product pz3 files' folder. It asked me to locate the texture and opened up the browse window in the P5 texture folder. I said not to look for textures, and it came back with the obj loaded. It didn't lock up, just brought up the object. I looked in the pz3 file and the pathnames were all full pathnames looking on C: drive. P5 managed to find the obj no problem, but the texture pathname threw it for a loop. P5 looks in the exact pathname indicated for textures. I then tried putting both the relative pathname in the pz3 file and it worked (:Runtime:textures:...) and then the full pathname (D:Poser 4Runtimetextures...), both worked. So, as long as the pz3 files have either the relative pathname or the exact pathname in it, they should open with no problem in P5, as long as the pathnames and filenames are correct that is. At least it seems to be this way. -darlisa

I think if you copy one runtime over another, you'll obliterate everything in the existing (destinateion) runtime.

Indeed... the question is, is there anything there to obliterate? Are there duplicate filenames that are different versions or anything like that?

Well, they included the default Poser 2/3/4 figures and P4 clothing, so the objs would be overwritten, but the cr2s are in different folders so those wouldn't be. Or you could put everything in the Downloads folder.
