Judging from some of the latest stuff I'm seeing from P5, it seems that it's easy enough to create filmy, semi-transparent materials with it. I hope I'm not wrong on this one. Is this actually the case? If so, presumably we can now junk the trusty, but basically horrible, transmap system. Seems to me that we're now seeing a glimpse of the full potential of poser 5. Can't transparent materials and dynamic hair be combined to get REAL hair? The hair I've seen so far doesn't impress me in the least. This is not a swipe at P5 or the people using it. I'm firmly of the opinion that'll it'll be at least 3 months before anyone can pass a truly informed opinon on the program. I'll bet we're not even scratching the surface of the possibilies. (Well, I sure ain't, since mine hasn't arrived yet, but you know what I mean). mac

I would say no...you still need transmaps for say...cutouts and such(see pheonix's one ring tut)

Mac, Don't know what you mean. Transmaps are still just as useful as they were before. You can make a filmy looking material without them, but if you want lace, you'll still need them. For hair, I think you're right that a combo of the old hair and the new will probably give the best final results. haven't tried anything like it yet, though, because my machine hates the dynamic hair. The good news about transmaps... you'll now be able to copy the transmap into the specularity value slot or the reflection value slot so that transmapped items can now have shininess of reflections without "ghosting" the invisible parts. And probably half a million things I haven't thought of yet. :) So you'll still need them, but they will be a lot more flexible. Phoenix

Mac, I believe that Poser 5 strand base hair in time will replace the old style modeled hair. If you want to see what can be done with it, look in the Poser 5 Products on the side bar. Neftis has made some of the ones that come ready made with Poser 5 as well as the ones in the store here.
