Subject: Visit To Victorian Village

There are several houses in my area that date back to the early to mid 1800's. Around here, that's considered old. One area where several are located is called Victorian Village. This house was last occupied in 1969, when the last family member, a 98 year old woman, died. It is now a museum, so I took the tour.

The house is completely restored as it was at the turn of the century, with the original furniture. This is the dinning room.

Here I'm on the 2nd floor looking down the stairs. That's an expensive Asian rug on the floor that the owner purchased in the 1890's while traveling the far east. BTW, this house is just 2 houses down from the haunted house that I posted a couple of months back.

Here's where the rich had their bath. This was bathing in the lap of luxury, when most everyone else around here had no indoor plumbing at all. I would have gotten a close-up of the handles, but this was as close as I could get without causing a scene!

And here's where they read. Note the child's seat. Sure beat the old outhouse - especially in the winter time!

A comfy corner. On the wall is a picture of the family's children. It looks like some nieces and nephews were there too, perhaps taken at a family reunion.

Finally, one last look at the outside of the house. Out of about 47 pictures taken, I've narrowed it here down to 7. Since you stayed to the end, I hope you enjoyed it. Any comments, of course always welcome, but realize that due to the restricted areas, I couldn't always position myself as I would have liked to.

don't ya just hate it when that absolute perfect picture needs to be taken 3 feet the other side of the rope or barrier that they won't let you cross..... neat house...nice pics, like the stair shot...

Great photos, I really like the comfy corner shot. I have a bath with the taps on the inside (1930) I should change them by law, because if the water level goes above the taps, the water in the bath could leak back in to the system, but I like them. Thanks for sharing these photos and info.

The exterior shots just show what a bold statement these homes make...even today! They sure don't make 'em like THAT anymore! It's great to see such a charming place being preserved for all to enjoy and allows us to step into the past! Thanks for sharing these Marshall! L8r!
