Hi Does anyone know how i can make a gradient with opacity. What i mean is this: A gradient changes from a certain color to another color over a certain distance on your picture. I want to create this but with opacity. so i want the picture to have a say 0% opacity to the left and 80% to the right. And the increas has to be smooth in the picture, without hard opacity changes that you can obviously see. I got 2 pictures wich i want to make it look like they dissolve into one another. so a part of one has about 80% so you can see the one beneath it. the middle of the 2 pictures has 50% opacity and a part of the other picture also has 80%. But i have no idea how to do this. I hope you understand, it's kinda hard to explain.

Hi Rennie, a quick and easy way (and NON destructive) would be to use a mask so your first image would blend into the underlying image.

step 1. Select the layer that has your first image and click on the "layer mask" icon to create a mask (this is the second ICON located at the bottom of the Layer Palette)

step 2. Select the gradient blend tool and change your FOREGROUND color to black (anything black will blend into the underlying image)

step 3. Drag in the direction you want the fade to be.

Play around with the Beginning and End point of your "click-and-drag" to change the blending effects between images.

This method is non destructive and allows you to experiment more with the fade/blend without altering either of your images.
