Okey-dokey, a little background here. I've rebuilt this computer 5 times, from the time it was a 386 with 2 mgs. of RAM. I'm very well versed in Computerize. But, It's been 7 years since I've played around with DOS. Here 's the situation. I'm moving, I can't find my Computer reference books and just had to install a new hard drive on my little PC. (It's now a Pentium 133 with 16mgs of RAM and the hard drive is a 4.3 gig) The bios first only recognized 540 mgs. I didn't know this until I'd already installed Win 95, so I thiought when I reconfigured the BIOS I'd be fine after I re-installed Win 95 ... not it won't come up and I, silly me, forgot how to write the command (from the emergency startup disk) to erase, or reformat the hard-drive to install Win 95 clean. Hello, The command to set up the harddrive partitions is FDISK. You will need to partition that drive into two partitions, that will make them C: and D:. Then you can format the drives using the FORMAT command. Hope this helps. Serpent

Thanks guys so much. Quick question. The BIOS now recognizes the full 4.3 gig ... do I still have to partition the harddrive to install Win 95, my CD is already drive D, and I dont want to mess with that if I don't have to. Thanks again. Boni

Your CD rom will be bumped down it will be drive E: if you partition it. Hawkfyr

If the BIOS recognizes the full size, don't partition

As bonestructure has said, there is no need to partition the hard drive if the full size is recognized. If you had a hard drive over 10 gig, you might want to partition it, but it's easier for all the housekeeping to keep a smaller drive at one partition. Also, Win NT will only recognize up to a certain size(what it is, I don't know) so most NT machines are partitioned.
