That could easily be a cover illustration. I think it is definitely that good. In fact, better than a great many covers I have seen. Keep up the fantastic work, James. And thank you for sharing!

This is an excellent illustration. The color, light and composition are beautiful, and the typography is well integrated. It looks so natural. Your struggle paid off and the result is well worth whatever efforts it took to achieve. --ratta

Bitchin. I especially like the lighting (my personal bugaboo.) Good spotlight, and even better ambient lighting.

Stunning!

I'm not sure what to say. But "Awesome!" comes to mind. If this were a book cover, I would pick up the book and start reading it for no other reason. You really did a great job, James. Rob

I think Shadownet put forward the best evidence and statement of the quality of your work on this. If it was a cover illustration, would it do what is intended -- get the potential reader to pick up the book and open it? And the answer is a resounding yes!

Definitely cover material. I love the lighting (one of my weak spots), but everything is just beautiful. Put this on a book cover, and you've got an instant best seller :)

That's just gorgeous... Is the hair an object or did you paint it in by hand? If it's an object, would you be willing to share...? :-) - taerin

Great image. I agree about cover art quality. And I'd probably pick it up too. =) Rosh

Sorry taerin, the hair is indeed an obj. One that I painstakingly created. Pushing and pulling .. and then creating the back flow with a braid. But the downside is, I used Zygote's hair as the top. So it can't be given away without Zygote's permission. James
CharlieBrown posted Fri, 24 March 2000 at 2:40 PM
James, couldn't you use that Objaction thing to release the hair to anyone who already has the Zygote hair?
jschoen posted Fri, 24 March 2000 at 2:54 PM
No CB, I've removed too much from it and it wouldn't match any obj file.
CharlieBrown posted Fri, 24 March 2000 at 3:07 PM
Ah, you get into a very strange area of copyright law then; technically if you've changed more than 20 or 25% of the original object, you've created a new one - but I can understand being reluctant to share it!

Yup, me too. More power to those who can create such things! :-) James, would you consider giving out a few steps on how you created it? That might get us headed in the right direction.
