I've been trying to use displacement maps on my character, but the render locks up...I though perhaps it just took a very long time, so I went to bed last night with the render at approx. 30%...the bar was near the fist dot following the word rendering on the bar.... Went to bed, figured I would see this great image when I checked...but the bar was about 2/3 and the entire system was locked up...had th CTRL-ALT-DEL to close Poser...ended upbooting the system as it was all sluggish. The above was in draft mode...I had tried production mode coupole of times, but it locked up during the attempt to render the first shadow... Could it be the settings I'm using for the displacement map? I'm not sure where to set the min/max dials, etc...how much displacement is needed to alter the figure? I know it depends on what you're trying to do, but perhaps there is a limit on what is possible as fas as shifting the mesh.

I've tried the default settings for displacement and it seems to work just fine. Haven't touched the displacement bounds settings at all. That raptor topiary pic I posted was displacement mapping adjusted only with the dial in the material room. -Jeff

Hmmmm.... I was using default as well...at first...then tried fooling with the dials a bit...with the same end result... I sent a report to CL.....not sure what the Monday patch is addressing.... I'm beginning to wonder if there's something amiss with my system, although I don't have problems with anything else. Think I'm going to back off my video drivers 1 or 2 versions....its nearly the weekend, so I'll have some time to mess around a bit.

Try applying a displacement to the sphere primative and see what happens.

Well...the ball went quite well :) This is one cool feature.... Now, wonder what was happening with my character...it was just a head as well....

You said earlier you had hair on your figure as well as a displacement map didn't you? Try hiding the hair group in the hierarchy window then try to render it again. I suspect it's the combo of both the hair and displacement doing this. I can usually use both hair and displ. mapping on my machine. But I do have a Poser dog with hair that will crash Poser due to it being too much for my machine to handle. It acts just like you're problem. ScottA
