you know what would be the best thing for p6? having splines implemented, so you only have one basic spline figure and if you want detail, then simply apply some displacement image that should define the details. it would be just the question of a black and white picture that everyone could deal with and make. everyone could make their own figures without the need of buying vickys or mikes. plus the morphs would be as easy to make as painting in photoshop.

if you export a model that has been previously displacement mapped..does the displacement export, ie..is this an actual model change or is this a render engine trick? If its the former, this will add a whole new dimension to poser model creation and details. BT
aleks posted Fri, 27 September 2002 at 3:56 PM
bt, it's only in the render engine. it will be calculated only during render process.

You can do that in bryce with the terrain editor. There is also a little program someone did and I think it is in the free stuff that will do it. Ron

PoseRay, the Poser to POVRay app has a displacement mappimg feature that uses an image to displace an obj which you can save. Looks OK for gross changes, but I don't know about creating fancy characters.

Displacement mapping is also great for making ripples and waves. You can often animate the displacement and make things like billowing capes. If you watch a movie where they show a wall or a stomach and make it bulge out like there is an alien or hand or something stretching through it, that was possibly done with displacement maps.
Before they made me they broke the mold!
