Just tried to open poser, P4, by the way and when I clicked on the icon on my desktop, click and then nothing. Not to worry, I tried to use the icon on start button and click and then nothing. Still not to worry, I tried the programs icon for both Curious Labs and Meta Creations, click and then nothing. Getting worried at this point. I figured I would just load poser 4 back on top of itself. Popped in the CD and clicked on setup. Whirling sound and then nothing. I switched drives and the same thing. Now I am worried and don't know what to do.

did you try to run it straight from the exe instead?

Try to look at the task manager to see if it's actually loading up or if it's quitting right away for some reason. I also highly recommend turning off other applications that may be conflicting with it. The most typical problem software is virus software, because it's very invasive software. If worst comes to worst, try booting up into Safe Mode/VGA mode and starting from there. If it starts up, then that means that something is conflicting with it. Either there's some software running that conflicts with it, or you might want to update your video driver. I have no idea why it would suddenly stop working, though. Whew, those years of tech support are coming in handy. :) Good luck! Auralia

I have an idea why it's stopped working but I really hope I'm wrong, mine did the same thing a few months back & it turned out to be a virus. Rob

yup, hate to say this but it could be the Kleez virus. it's been going around lately and seems to bypass some anti virus programs if they haven't been updated in the past mont or so. there is a small progam that removes it from all your files. but I don't have that info for the website here at work (Could be ontrack) if any of your files try to open up with the wrong progam it's probably Kleez.

Since you have the cds, you can get replacements if you think that's the problem. Emily

Wheee, Just loaded poser back on top of itself and works. Don't know what went wrong. But it seems to be working fine. I thought it might be a virus and ran Norton and my machine was clean. So I took a nap and then woke up and restarted the computer. There was something runing in the background that was hanging the machine up. Some .DLL program. Anyway everything is great for the moment.

Poser 4. Sorry. I don't have P5 yet
queri posted Fri, 27 September 2002 at 6:34 PM
Yeah, well, that sure looks like the P5 patch which would explain why you can't install it. P4 patch is 4.03. Emily

Actually it was the 4.2 patch. In the end, I had to delete and start all over again. Which makes me a little nervous about P5. Last year on my old computer I was reinstalling poser on the average about every 5 or 6 weeks. This is the first time I had to do on my new computer, but it does get me wondering about how easy it will be to do this with P5. I have read the posts here and while some reassure, more create anxity about how it is all going to play out. I am a firm believer in computer and software security ever since my computer project in college got hacked and I had to spend an entire weekend rewritting and debugging the software that I had wrote. And I had to past the course to graduate. That was bad enough, but a cute young redhead type female and I had plans for that weekend to celebrate the end of the term and that all fell by the wayside. Anyway, since then I have always wanted the strongest security that I could get. The problem with security though, is how secure to make something and still have both user friendly and affordable. While not taking sides, I do wish that CL would re exam their system and make it more user friendly....

4.03 is the only supported patch, maybe you should try it.
