In another, um, busy thread, someone mentioned "trolling" was a no no.. I just curious what that was? Blue

I thought AgentSmith meant it the same as "fishing", as in calling attention to oneself to garner compliments...but I could be wrong...however, the dictionary states it as "to utter in a full rolling voice", "to be loud", "to be obnoxiuos or offensive"...

Blue, I don't have a good definition of it. I have noticed thar at times a member who appears to be a clone of another member will use that clone to do things that the member would not do with their normal username like start fights, initiate personal attacks and generally create a negative atmosphere. I'm sure there's more to it. - TJ

Someone going from forum to forum or picture to picture and leaving negative comments. Just Mod slang.

That's it - negative posts design solely to provoke controversy. I only learned a couple of days ago what it meant to "bump" a thread. There's a whole new language out there... :)

More specifically, trolling is a way of fishing. What you do is bait a hook, and dangle it off the back of a boat then drive the boat around waiting for a fish to bite. It's been adapted for use on bulletin boards like this one. It's been taken so far as to say one who trolls is a troll. Bad English for sure, but that's what has evolved on the web. So a troll is someone who posts a message that is inflammatory -- that he knows will cause a stir -- and waits for someone to bite on it. It more or less always causes fights.

Remember how trolls end: "Who's that trip-trapping on my bridge?" :-)

Unfortunately (in D&D at least) trolls also regenerate ...

What a bunch of crap. Anyone suggesting that someone would start or participate in a thread simply to stir things up are mindless delusional imbysils. No-one needs something to do that badly. You're all fools for even suggesting that "trolls" even exist. You all probably check under your beds at night and suck your thumbs. I'm outta here. (Did I spell imbysils right?)

I beg to differ, there are people out there who's sole purpose is to create controversy, it's their nature to be contrary...I've seen posts on bulletin boards that would curl your hair (actually the last was on a Bryce site no less!)...

People that "troll" do exist. Seen people leaving stuff about how PCs are better than Macs in a Mac only site and when the thread was on Mac stuff. They show up push the wrong buttons and slink away, leaving folks yelling and screaming. One problem with Messages boards and such, you could say stuff to people that you would not say to them in real life. Have seen trolls throw axes.
