Remove the REFLECT_2 node. You don't need it. THis combined with your purple diffuse color is probably the reason for the lines. Make your diffuse color white and delete that second reflection node.

Staby,
It looks like you used the simple square prop for the mirror. Instead, use the Square Hi-res prop. You should find the artifacts disappear.

Thank you iancollins the Hi-res square don't show artifacts. It is a relief. Everything was working fine with Poser 5 so far and I was worried. Now I only need to find out some good settings to make a mirror...

Here's the simple square-prop mirror with no artifacts.....

Make sure that you set both the diffuse and specular colours to black (RGB=000).
Haven't finished testing to see if there are any limitations with this setup but, so far, I haven't found any.

black not white. can you tell I've been awake far too many hours? ;-) A

Alternatively, instead of setting the colours to black, you can set Diffuse_Value and Specular_Value to 0.

Anthony,
I'm finding that, if I make the diffuse and specular black, plugging the reflect node into the reflection colour channel still gives artifacts with the simple square-prop mirror.
But, if I plug the reflect node into the Alternate Diffuse channel (as in the example I gave above) then everything seems to work ok. I can't understand why that should be......or......am I missing something..?

Well, the DIFFUSE channel is a lighting model. This is the same as taking a LIGHTING>DIFFUSE node and plugging it into ALT-DIFFUSE. So I can see where that would affect the renders, but I'm not 100% sure of what's going on behind the scenes.

I wouldn't worry about it Anthony, I don't think anyone else is either :P

Artifacts look similar to the ones I'm seeing in the thread at the attached link. Are you using the two sided plain? Try using the exact same settings with the one sidded plain.Staby posted Sun, 06 October 2002 at 5:19 AM

The object actually looks rougher in the reflection. That's odd.
