I guess you have to be an experienced PC user like me not to read update info BEFORE installing an update. I learned that ignorance like that still doesn`t pay off...I downloaded the split installers and ran them in succession following the online instructions. Happily started the updated P5 only to run into the dreaded Windows Blue Screen Of Death, BSOD for short, and a yammed PC. Dang
, reboot, restart P5, bang, BSOD again, hit ENTER, got back to Windows, killed the P5 process, bang, BSOD again, virus killer gone haywire, PC yammed again. Argghhh, shut off the PC, switched it on again, disabled the virus killer, started P5, bang, BSOD again. Frustration sets in...
Shut down the PC again, how about P4 then? Oh wait, enable virus killer first, started P4, bang BSOD again. Another PC shutdown, got myself a can of coffee, arggghhh, tripple dang, no more sugar and the PC BIOS messed up. Nasty looks at my girlfriend, stop kissing my neck, my Vicki won
t show!!!
PC shutdown, startup, BIOS reset, booting: ok, BIOS might have been messed up the first time, so, startup P5, bang, BSOD...
Ready to break down and sob all day about how nice things could have been without SR1, I decided to check the Support area at the CL site. Nothing! Downloads maybe. A link called Poser Driver Update for Windows 98 and ME caught my eye. Hmmmmm, I use WinME, what could that be?
This is what it said:
***This installer updates certain drivers on your system. To install these drivers, download the application and double-click it.
It is for Windows 98 & Me users ONLY
In some cases, the updated drivers do not work. In these situations, if you have already tried the updated drivers, we are providing some older drivers, which are known to work in most cases. Please try the updated drivers BEFORE downloading these files.
To install the older driver:
Go figure...
Just to help you prevent spending useless hours of trying to get your P4 and P5 running again, messy hair and a huge gap in your coffee (tea if you will) supplies: READ before install, make the darn backup and have a good laugh at my silly ass ignorance.
Yourse truly,
MaxxArcher

Actually, that particular download for the driver hasn't been available the whole time. It was added after the patches (and after a number of us faced the blue screen of death) so don't feel too bad. Anyway, the driver download does work for those of us who manage to continue to work on Windows 98/ME (I haven't tried to do too much yet...I tend to approach Poser 5 with great caution).

Don`t worry too much about my emotional state of mind, dialyn, I had a great time making up with my girlfriend afterwards. Thanks for your thoughts though! I have to be cautious anyway, with P4 too, I only have 128Mb of memory (in my PC, that is) so any graphically demanding software package plays tricks on me. But I am optimistic, after every reboot there is a fresh start... ;-) MaxxArcher

Hiya, I've been having the same problems... BSOD before and after SR1. The guys at CL are looking into it for me, but for the record neither the new or old drivers fixed the problem for me. I hope to learn more this week... Cheers, Bonzai Gopher

Bummer...the one thing about Poser 5 is that there is no universal "fix." I only had the blue screen after the patch, though I had nearly everything before (including the omni present left forearm which was a similar indicator of disaster). I guess this is a test of our patience...of which I have very little supply right now. :(

Is that due to the copy protection system used?

I had the same problem.. Blue screen of death with Error OE:018f:BFF6..... once I loaded Tpkd.vdx in windows P5 loaded and the patch worked..But I then had to go back and change Tpkd.vdx again as the patch changed it again.. The one that came with the patch is 48 kb, the download fix is 44 kb....My P5 works now and the patch seems to also as Judys full body morph dials now work and they never did before. fun.. PE

Bless you, MaxxArcher! Your tip solved my problem with my previously-working P5 installation on my Win98 machine that went BSOD after the SR1 patch. I was pretty disappointed until trying the older driver, as you suggested, which restored my P5 to working status. Many thanks for posting your advice here. I totally missed it at CL's site myself.

HUHHHHH!!!! Please not more bugs! Thanks for all these warnings! t me vcaSTe Savit' ay ary, as Rigveda X:34 v.13 says (= "This the noble Savitr here reveals to me") in a poem advising people not to gamble. It seems now that I better not gamble with Poser 5 until a long while has passed for more of the bugs to be found and the updates for them to get incorporated in Poser 5 as it is sold in shops in England.
