Branches are a little thick. How'd you get one side to droop and not the whole thing?

I've had those lop sided ones too. Try to decrease leaf size by 1 and increse foliage density by 2 or more. Decrease trunk thickness and decrease gravity. Sometimes I use trunk textures with little or no bump for leaves and tweak the colors too.

I am quickly understanding other members' frustration with the tree lab. My limbs are too fat, so I decrese that, and everytime I do they get shorter and shorter...how do I make limbs that are thinner (normal) but not only 2 inches long? my tree looks like sea coral. And, that is a beutiful tree Max!, but how do you get past a tree shaped like a tall cylinder? Mine just keeps getting taller and thinner(and still has fat limbs) I want limbs that stretch out .(more horizontal) I haven't had any pregnant spots yet. Lol....oh, I have opened a pandoras box with this tree lab... AgentSmith

Yeah experiment with everything like Max said, it's just a get a feel for it kinda thing. I tried lots of stuff in Vue with trees...but all "Vue trees" look the same. Bryce trees are really versatile.

COOOL. That coral stuff is awesome. I never would have realized the power of the tree editor to do anything other than trees. It certainly works a lot better than using ab unch of metaballs.

I don't think you can get anything but the most basic trees out of the tree lab. However, some things I have learned are to use smaller leaves than the default settings. I also don't like the ambience in the leaf textures, I always make it zero. Branch start/end angle and distribution are the main factors that will effect the shape of the tree. Distribution will effect the vertical pattern of branches i.e. uniform from top to bottom, clustered toward the top. Branch start angle effects the "offshoots of the branches. This will control if they point up, down or sideways. Branch end angle effects the leafy part of the branch and to what degree it bends. it is similar to gravity but it is a more precise and uniform control. Look at the brycetech treelab thingymabobber.

Oh and here's my tree site if anyone wants to mess with some premades that are fairly diverse. As you can probably tell I have not updated the site in almost a year and a half so some of the trees (the fir trees) are not to fabulous...lol. My personal favorites are, in order: Giant Sequoia, (You can stick a road through the roots) Japanese Cherry Tree, and Japanese Plum Tree. I have done significant updates on all of the trees but my favorites. I will try to get these up on my new site soon. Oh and BTW, Trees can also be used, if you make the trunks invisible, for particle effects.

I've done the invisible tree trunks and glass leaves for semi realistic bow wake splashes. I've been working to perfect bushes (especially sumac) and have only been able to partially succeed. I bury the tree in the ground so only part of the crown shows. Here's my best fall picture to get a feel for what I've done for fall foliage. Yeah, I took advantage of Bryce tree crapness on "Summoning the Djinn" where all the bulbous, slimy greenery was just a bunch of Bryce trees gone wrong. I try not to use trees very much, because they end up looking terrible. In Bryce 6, maybe...?

thanx zhann the settings for the cedar/pine trees are in the tutorial at brycetech.com ..its the same tree settings for those. The others are just random trees selected from the tree lab...Maples, oak, and the like. I randomly selected a tree and changed the leaf color (sometimes only slightly, sometimes significantly) also randomly selected a tree and changed the leaf count then all I did was duplicate like mad and place 'em everywhere (by landing them, grouping them all, then dragging the group down slightly to embed it) it was easy :) BT

It seems that you think I do something special and I really dont (at least I dont think its special) but I'd be willing to start a tree discussion string with the whole detailed schpill of what I do and then maybe you all would like to chime in? just a thought BT

I'd love to see one of those again. I lost my directions on making weeping willows and would love to learn more about fall leaf colors for which trees. I've been kinda winging it and ending up with Terry Redlin-esque results. (aka. inappropriate colors on trees... but they look good!) So you could count me in on that.

Okay, I've been trying to recreate the trees that are on the link that Zhann sent, and I can do a few of them, but most cause bryce to tank out on my system. The crashes seem to be isolated to when I try to increase the segment count, and branches per segment. I noticed that on some trees you can get away with increasing these sliders up by increments of 1, let it compute, then 1 more. God forbid though you change the randomness, gravity or distribution AFTER you've upped the branches or segments. At least that's been my problem. Anyone else sharing this dilema?

No worries Zahnn, I appriciate the help you have done. What I've been doing instead is cutting down on the size and complexity and saving them as .obj to cover my behind so I don't have to go through this every time. And yes I probably should get more than just 256 of RAM as well. At least I know my processor is up to snuff. (Athelon 1.3ghz with quantispeed... gotta love it.)
