I am Mac based - and I also have a basic PC system (out of necessity). I have noticed thet my scans look wonderful on my Mac - and always appear too dark on my PC (not just mine - but at work as well). Soooo....based on the thinking that most people here are PC based - I am wondering how the density of my images look (refer to my last post "composition rules) - there is an image there which I have lightened considerably in attempt to "look right" on a PC (It looks washed out on my system here) Questions: 1: Does this image look "washed out" to you - if so, are you Mac or PC based 2: Is there a way to "standardise" images for cross-platform viewing? I have absolutely no intention of generating a "Mac vs. PC thread - I am genuinely interested in the difference between the two platforms as to graphic display.

Im not sure but I think there was a thread on mac/pc monitors and image display I think the conclusion was as you say washed out on the mac ok on pc. You need to post the image Marc if you need us to comment on it.just a small point LOL... :O)

I've got my monitor calibrated for print work (what i see is pretty close to what prints in a magazine) - but the same images look awful on a PC. Here is a post: It's fine for printing and looks good on my system - but on my PC...YUCK!:

In Photoshop, the View > Proof Setup has the option to preview in Windows or Macintosh RGB...does anyone know how accurate an idea this might give? (considering the points Alpha made regarding different monitors & settings) BTW ~ I'm on a PC, and the image looks pretty good to me...certainly nothing I would say was YUCK...

Thanks for asking this question, Wolf. I'm on a PC. Macs and PC's do use different gamma settings. And things are REALLY messed up on Sun machines. I've calibrated my monitor with my printer, and I've gotten mostly good comments on my postings, but there is always the concern that what looks good on my monitor, looks like crap on everyone elses'. I've noticed that I lose some of the shadows from other folks', so maybe my monitor is adjusted slightly dark? [In your post above, I see no detail in the shadow under the shell. Under the right nostrule, I'm starting to lose highlight detail, but it is still OK. I know folks in the industry have been working on this problem. [Sending profiles along with the jpegs.] But I do not know the current state of the art. I'm sure Michelle ans Star would LOVE you to research it and post a small tutorial...
