I have been fairly quiet on all the Poser5 Bruhaha, but I am REALLY getting TIRED of any time I TRY to render ANY type of Animation and Poser5 Freezes and I have to shut off my PC.What the hell is going on?I am waitng for the SR2 CD but is that needed for a SIMPLE animation?I also tried to appy a small mimic folder and the same crap happens. The program also freezes on other rooms. Will the Patch fix that?HELP!

Hisminky posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 4:17 AM

I downloaded and installed the patch, and now I get new errors. I'm not a happy camper at all. Just now, when I tried to make an error report, CL website is down.

LOL As I was reading this post ( just after one of my many nightly poser 5 crashes) I couldn't help notice the "Poser 5 Now Available in the Marketplace" ad was ironically positioned just millimeters above your heading and this string. {SFX EVIL LAUGH} segue into {CRY OF DESPAIR}. {FADE OUT}

Don't get me wrong.I really believe Curious Labs and Co.will fix things......I PRAY,LOL.BUT,when it can't render a simple animation,I get upset.I have a DELL P3,WinXP,Over 350 Ram,and lotsa HD,with NVideo GForce,so it is not my system.I just want to use my new program!:).I hope these issues are worked out.The other thing that worried me is after all the fixes, how much of the manual will I be able to understand?I am retarded enough!(I DO READ it by the way, lol.)

reiss-studio posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 5:33 AM

heh, from what I've seen from the patches so far, the manual still applies :)

Lapis posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 5:35 AM

Actually considering the errors in the released manual I think a rewrite could be helful but after more fixes so all settings match accordingly. An online version and a downloadable manual would be nice. When they adress more issues like the firefly rendering bug, and possible increases in texture resolution in the face room, as well as tonal node matching of custom face to attached body, this will make the program worth it. Oh and of course the frustrating issues that some of us are having like room crashes, render freezups, etc. Once this is all working nicely then a PP type plugin would be in order. Next week, another patch....I for one can hardly wait.

good point! and I'm looking forward to that patch too. cheers,-J

I still haven't re-installed poser5 and I have the patch 1, but I have it on a cd waiting for the time I quit seeing these post, I will just keep downloading the new patches but, too scared to even program poser 5 back on my nice new work station.

Love is Grandchildren.

I ditto Turtle's comments. I have a 2.4 GHx P4 with 2 gigs of RAM and a GeoForxe 4 TI4600 video card. P5 is so slow in so many simple tasks, locks up over the eimplest things and has screen redraw problems galore. I can't imagine how people with less powerful systems are coping.

Intel Core I7 3090K 4.5 GhZ (overclocked) 12-meg cache CPU, 32 Gig DDR3 memory, GeoForce GTX680 2gig 256 Bit PCI Express 3.0 graphic card, 3 Western Difgital 7200 rpm 1 Tb SATA Hard Drives

"I really believe Curious Labs and Co.will fix things......" I used to have faith in them, too. But how can you believe they'll fix things when they still haven't fixed the P4 bugs? How long has it been now, three years? When does it roll over to four? Soon, I think.

"I used to have faith in them, too. But how can you believe they'll fix things when they still haven't fixed the P4 bugs?" I think it's a good sign that they're moving so fast to get the SR2 patch out. also you mentioned unfixed p4 bugs. can you elaborate? I'd love to see a list of these (even if it's just so I knwo what they are) thanks! -Josh

I think it's unfortunate that there has to be patchs at all. Why couldn't the product be workable from the start? It doesn't speak well for a company. When I buy a General Electric appliance, I expect it to work correctly when I plug it in. I don't expect to wait for an attachment to come so I can use it. Likewise, with any software company, they would do better business if they test things properly before lettng it loose to the world. Why in Heaven didn't they discover these flaws during beta testing? I have a hard time believing that the beta testers all had no problems with it. I have to wonder if they didn't let enough people with different kinds of computers test it. A few years ago, I beta tested Rhino and was among thousands of beta testers. How many people actually tested Poser 5? There was never even a call for beta testers, was there? I never heard of one. I suspect beta testing might have been done by invitation only with a small, select group of Poser elites. Beta testing should have gone public. Melanie

Melanie, Don't you get it? We're beta testers. Only we had to PAY for the privledge. However, I think the closed beta testers had more attention paid to them(I'm assuming this, I may be VERY wrong) and they didn't get the run around when they TRIED to report the bugs, or were treated like hillbilly cousins that can't read.

JeffH posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 4:08 PM

Is this the hillbilly cousins thread? :-)

Jackson posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 4:55 PM

reiss, I can't think of them all now, but just off the top.... Memory leaks Multiplying magnets Malfunctioning Undo Open dialog box goes crazy when looking for textures The c-exception error (I didn't have this prior to P5, but I read others did) That's it for now. I'll think of the others as I run across them.

reiss-studio posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 5:24 PM

Hi jackson, great list I'm looking forward to seeing the rest! for these 3: Multiplying magnets Malfunctioning Undo Open dialog box goes crazy when looking for textures could you give a quick description of how to duplicate the errors? (also if you have an example of the memory leak I'd love to try it too) as to the C-exception, this is a generic error message which gets thrown when the code has a problem. think about it like a generic error that says "we've hit a bug, and have to close." Although you see the same error type this is probably not the same c-error that someone saw in Poser 4.

Jackson posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 6:00 PM

Is this a test? You don't believe me? How long have you been using Poser?

reiss-studio posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 6:04 PM

I absolutely believe you! didn't mean to imply anything else. I havn't used poser nearly as long as most of the people here, and honestly don't know where I'd hit the bugs you just posted. I was just hoping for some tips so I could see and avoid them

Jackson posted Sun, 13 October 2002 at 8:58 PM

Well, you'll run into the magnet bug using magnets. And the undo bug using undo. Etc. Just keep using Poser, you'll find them all, and more. And there isn't a way to avoid them, but don't worry, CL is going to fix them in the next ..... er, nevermind.

Allen9 posted Mon, 14 October 2002 at 2:49 PM

All the bugs will DEFINITELY be fixed in Poser Version 945.02(b). (Holding breath is not advised.) ;o)
