Diandra posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 10:24 AM

Yep! There are some major changes and major savings to be had! I just bought the Platinum membership (on special offer) for $50 and a bunch of goodies for $16 ($1.99 each), that would have normally cost over $175. Even if I had bought the annual membership for $99 (normal price), it would have paid for itself already!! ~Di

CuriousLabs better get their Content Room working pretty quickly. Kinda like the stock market, the poser market is running up n up. Hope Curiouslabs doesnt miss the ball. I think I'll hold off on buying a Daz Membership wait til all the dust settles n see whats going on.

Crescent posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 11:39 AM

I rushed over there and purchased the membership. Now I have to wait until I get home tonight and suck the store dry! ;-) I'd bought several of the items in the Platinum Club at full price, but there's so much stuff in there that I don't care! (And they were worth full price, btw.) I think I'm going to spend more on items tonight than I spent on the membership today. What's that puddle of plastic on my desk? That was my credit card!

xoconostle posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 12:04 PM

Andix, why do you think DAZ should stop requiring exclusive items? It helps make their site unique. If you could get everything everywhere, it would make for less competition, less marketplace individuality. My opinion. If I were a talented-enough modeler, I'd think it would be an honor to be represented by DAZ. They are a class act (which is not to dis' any other marketplace.)

KattMan posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 1:01 PM

Daz does have a non-exclsusive agreement for model makers. For exclusive sales the artist gets 50%, non-exclusive is not listed. So you see they do offer it, the artists just don't go for it.

sturkwurk posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 2:07 PM

I filled up my cart so I could purchase everything later (I have NO patience!) and the cart overturned while I was selecting items. Talk about a massive clean up on aisle four. ;-) I don't know if I took too long, if there was a network hiccup, or if my credit card somehow did a magical pre-emptive strike to save what little limit is left, but my basket emptied itself. Yes, I was logged in while I selected items. It suddenly forgot who I was, made me log in again, and there was nothing in my basket. (Did someone steal my cart while I wasn't looking?) I may have to make my purchases in multiple installments. :-(

$150 so far, and I haven't even gotten to the Vicky stuff, or all the Mike clothing textures I want. Wish it had started a week ago, I could have saved $50 on things I got last week. I'm calling it quits for today. I'm worn out just downloading and installing. I still have to put everything in their correct libraries. Whew! This is one great deal. Someone was mentioning that Poserland was drying up. Daz seems to have put the kiabash on that idea.

Tomsde posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 3:02 PM

I'll be interested in seeing how this pans out. As far as I have seen so far Daz hasn't come up with any Poser 5 specific content so far. The python scripts I've bought, for instance, will only run under Poser 4 Pro Pack. When Daz releases it's own application I am concerned that eventually Poser won't be supported at all. But this is all speculation as there is little information available. Although I'm tempted to join the club, I just don't have $50.00 lying around right now to do it. I'll be looking to hear what people are experiencing from their memberships.

Jcleaver posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 3:30 PM

Well, DAZ does sell Morphos which is a Python script. It runs under Poser 5 if set up correctly. I would be interested in seeing which Python scripts don't work in Poser 5. So far, I haven't found any.

andix said 'so when will they stop requiring vendors to carry exclusive products? won't be going anywhere near there until they do........ ' andix, You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about this. (2 DAZ threads in the space of a few hours where you make this same comment). 1. Why shouldn't they want their vendors products to be exclusive? That's successful marketing. Provide a high-quality product that no one else has at a good price. It's good for the customers, good for the site and good for the vendors. 2. If you don't want to go near DAZ because of this policy, fine. But can I ask you why? Is it as a customer and in protest against this policy? Or as a vendor who refuses to sell through DAZ? If you're a customer, I can't see what the hell difference it makes to you. If you're a vendor, you can take it from me - as someone who brokers through DAZ, I'm more than happy to be exclusive to them. DAZ has shown over and over again that they are WAY AHEAD of anyone else in the world of Poser, when it comes to marketing and customer service. mac And, BTW, the Platinum Club is only one of many new things on the way.

whbos posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 4:09 PM

I wonder how long the discounted membership will last. I didn't see anything on the site and I don't have $50 to spend on a membership at this time. Kind of reminds me of trying to scrape together the rest of the money to pre-order Poser 5 and was disappointed after it shipped. I also wonder if non-platinum members will still have discounts on new items, or do we all have to go platinum. Seems there should be more of an incentive for those who have already spent thousands at their store. I'll have to wait on this one.

I was TOTALLY beside myself when they wanted to put my Phoebe up in their store. And as for exclusive, like that's a problem! If any vendor didn't want to be exclusive with their product at Daz doesn't HAVE to sell with them anyway. There are plenty of other stores through which to sell.

maclean posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 6:16 PM

Wynter + Xena, Glad someone sees my point. I only have a couple of things at DAZ (because it takes me so long to make anything - LOL), but when I did finally have something worth selling, I tried DAZ first, and was VERY happy when they accepted it, because I know they have pretty high standards. If they had rejected it, then I'd have gone elsewhere, but I'm glad I didn't have to. I like high standards because they work 2 ways. It means the customers only get high-quality stuff, but more importantly, it makes me try harder too. I'll only submit stuff to DAZ if I know it's good, so I take my time and make sure it's right. Which is the way it should be. mac

Xena posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 6:33 PM

Tim I was wondering that myself :) Mac, I agree with your two-fold idea as well. I try to make everything high quality, but submissions to Daz (and now Poser Pros) need that added extra to make them worthy.

Tomsde posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 6:34 PM

In response to the Python script issue above. I'd tried running PC Brothers lighting scripts in Poser five, but they crashed. Has anyone else had a similar experience. If you know a trick to get them to go in Poser 5 please let me know. I've not tried Morphos. I read in another thread that Poser 5 Python is a different version than P4.

Jcleaver posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 6:53 PM

Morphos does indeed work, but you need to make sure all the files are in the correct place. You can't run it from the Poser 4 directory. It does need to be installed in he Poser 5 Runtime. Was the light sets installed in the Poser 5 runtime library?

Terry Mitchell posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 7:03 PM

Tomsada, Python Scripts that have the "pyc" extension instead of the "py" don't work in P5. I'm hoping the creators of such Scripts take not and make them available in a format modified to work in P5 (especially Pc Bos).

Can you use DAZ vouchers to further discount the Platinum Club membership price? How about applying the 30-day price guarantee to items previously bought on sale and with vouchers? So if I got the Adventurers a few weeks back for $2.47 after the Medieval Sale and voucher deductions, could I get it for $1.99 and save the $0.48... or even re-use the vouchers on other things? ;)

PheonixRising posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 10:26 PM

Hi there, Wow lots of comments. Glad you like it. Lots of cool stuff coming too. I wanted to address a few questions or comments -$1.99 is the minimum discount. Sorry. :) - members receive a permanent 30% discount off Daz Premiere Store items but not in addition to other discounts. What this means is that you can get your 30% savings this week or next month without pressure to buy. We can't do 60% discounts. Sorry -More on the Loft soon. It will be the third zone added. -The inventory doesn't rotate like a sale section. What is there now will always be there tomorrow. -The Platinum Club will always require a membership. (Someone speculated that memberships were a temporary thing) -We will add to it weekly. We thought about a free gift but we figured 50% off membership was a better idea. :) Anton Kisiel Daz3D Platinum Club anton@daz3d.com PS: Please feel free to email ideas and suggestions for products to me directly.

THIS IS IT!!! ---> > *30% off all DAZ original products, including 30% off products already on sale One could read that as a flat 30% off the products in total, as 30% off the sale price of products already on sale, or 30% off the original price in addition to the 30% off from the sale. In other words, that language could mean that with a Platinum membership, DAZ products on sale for 30% off could actually be (a) 30% off, (b) 51% off, or (c) 60% off. It's ambiguous, but Anton seems to have clarified that (a) is the correct interpretation.

Petunia posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 11:20 PM

So, if it is on sale at 40% off, we get the thing for our 30%? That doesn't make much sense.

Petunia posted Tue, 15 October 2002 at 11:25 PM

DanFarr said ---> With a club membership you will also be able to save 30% off of the advertized price of DAZ created products in the main section of the store. Now does advertised prices mean sales too?

Platinum Club is the coolest, but in response to some issues brought up in this thread... I wish DAZ and other marketplaces would be more careful about some of their ads. They continue to list items as being on sale when they no longer are. (E.G. yesterday the Hydra was listed in an ad as being 40% off, but if you put went to the actual product page or put it in your shopping cart, it was full price.) I recently had a frustrating incident along these lines here at Renderosity. An item was advertised as being on sale a few days after it no longer was. I IM'd the merchants, one of whom promised to make up for my disappointment with what appeared to be a generous offering. I in turn promised to return as a customer as frequently as possible. The merchant then failed to follow through, and didn't respond to a second notice that the outdated ad was still appearing the next day. (I was non-accusatory and polite.) Broken promises suck. I fully understand how difficult it can be to maintain a large online marketplace, which is why I try not to get too upset by these things. There's the human side of business to consider. On the other hand, such sloppiness, no matter how "understandable," can lead to consumer frustration which in turn leads to diminished sales. I know I'll never buy anything from the R'osity merchant I'm speaking of, again. He was wrong to make a promise, then fail to deliver. But that's just one person. (And to be fair, Clint offered a polite explanation regarding the ad.) DAZ' customer service is very professional and friendly when there's a problem, which goes a long way to smooth out any wrinkles and maintain good relations. Still, youze guyz should remove those ads when they're no longer true! Just a friendly suggestion to all online merchants.
