This seems like a potentially useful thing, but what on earth can I do with it? The hair doesn't seem to render. Any advice? TIA.

heyas; you can export it and use furfur to... do things with it. ::rummages around for masa's url again...::duanemoody posted Mon, 21 October 2002 at 5:19 PM
If you don't have furfur (or a Windows OS), the other advice is to export the hair object as a .DXF and then reimport it, position it and save to the hair library. Before there was the Hair Room, what I used to do was go into the Grouping Tool, select enough polygons from a bald figure's head to spawn a scalp prop, then use the secret hairmaker on the prop. Sort of successful. Just as with the Hair Room hair, this makes a ridiculously hi-res hair object, so if you have a 3D editor, you might care to decimate it to lower the poly count.

Ok, I understand you both so far, but why doesn't the stuff show up on a render? Do I have to export and re-import it first?

I think it has something to do with normals. Exporting to a cruder 3D format (like .DXF) seems to resolve this by stripping them out, then when you reimport the .DXF Poser applies the normals correctly. Or something like that. In any case, you have to export.

How do you activate the "tree maker" cookie again? I remember a while back someone told how to do it. I did it once when I was very new to Poser4 and didn't write it down on how to open it (my memory sux big time).

Launch Poser 4. Type the word "hair" (without quotes). It's like a cheat code in a computer game. Another hidden feature: "po2" : The old Poser 2 interface "po3" : Restores the interface to normal

It won't render, but you can export the image. Use Menu/File/Export Image and choose Jpeg or whatever format you want. mac

Wow! I had never come across this feature before and just tried it for the first time. I've come to two conclusions based on two trials. First Vicky doesn't suit a beard. And secondly I will NEVER invest in mohair underpants. I'll sure be experimenting with this though. :o).
