Hi I just got Carrara. Wow is this going to be a learning curve :( Anyway, I save a Poser fig in .obj from Poser 4. I import into Carrara. Loads in. NO textures! Change import settings. Starts loading. IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND FILE message. I thought it might be looking for textures, but it only allows for a .car file to be found. If I click cancel it loads. (sometimes canceling several times) What's going on? Please help. I would like to get some figs I did into Carrara to do some rendering. Is there a secret to this, that I'm missing? Should I trash the .mat file? James Any help is aprecieated.

Sorry, I forgot. I'm on a MAC. Carrara 1.1 I believe. The latest, since it was just shipped to me. James

I'm on a Mac also I'm having the same problem, it must be a bug or something. Chris

I'm on a Mac too and have had great luck exporting from Poser as a 3DS instead of an .obj file. Read about doing that somewhere on this forum. Mark

I found out if I check the load as one obj, it loads in fine. I tried the rds format, and I get strange breaks in the vertices and no tex maps. Speaking of maps. My next thing is to figure out these damn transparency maps from Poser to Carrara. I tried all the ways shown on this board. Still no luck. It should be simple. James

to load a poser figure into carrara (I use the updated Mac version) I export the poser 4.02.118 figure as an obj ** (default settings) to a folder that contains ALL the maps associated with the figure and which was used to load the textures to the original poser figure. Then I import the wavefront obj file into an existing scene in carrara using the default settings. To check that ALL the maps are in the folder, read the mtl or mat file as a text file to confirm that the paths referring to each map go to the folder and that all the maps called by the mtl or mat file are in the folder. I guess you could delete the materials file, but then you lose so much info. you could also delete the parts of the materials file that refer to maps you can't find. ** when exporting the poser obj, I click off the universe first, then click on just the figure and the props that I need. transparency maps are still a problem, though. don't know how to easily do those yet. I hope it will be fixed in the next patch, for which we have to check the onelist Carrara message board frequently.

I purchased Carrera when it was first shipped, and noticed the same problem. I notified Tech support at Meta Creations and was told that since it was a new app that there were a few kinks to be worked out and that the problem would be addressed in the release of the Update/Patch. (Guess not)
