I think the wooden item that was lowered over the moat was called a drawbridge. An approach leading to the moat/drawbridge was usually dirt textured. It was a bit before my time, so I'm really not sure... Can I phone a friend?

why do you think I was babaling about the texture earlier. It's pretty sad now that I look at it. And no one mentioned the banners

Banners look good from this distance but if you were going to have them closer in the final render. ya might wanna add some bump . BTW did you find any textures at that site I sent you ?Hawkfyr

Yup answered too soon!(see thread below :)And you guessed it I read from the back of the paper first as well :) I like the ramp though like Art said in most cases they were dirt.Maybe make a terrain mound to meet the ramp? But hey either way it's doable..there are a few nice dirt textures out there, as well as stone ones. :) Try freetextures.com, ftp://wuarchive.wustl.edu/packages/architec/Textures/ www.totallyseamless.com www.saturn-online.de/~cosmo/mats.htm http://mastering3dgraphics.com/public/textures I like it so far I think the end result will be worth it. Hey Tempest! I think the castle looks great! (except for ALL of the suggestions mentioned above). The banners look a bit flat. Maybe adding a little wave in the banner will give the image a more realistic look. It should be a sinch using the terrain editor, and then just applying the texture. Good Luck! -Adam

yup, the banners need a little flagginess. The causeway to the castle wasn't always dirt. Castle entrances were sometimes built above an aboveground dungeon due to the terrain of the building being like solid stone, or because they used ramps to enter the castle to make it difficult for enemies to negotiate large wagons and such easily once inside the castle.
