I was wondering if it's worth using another program like Cinema 4DXL to render poser animations - the poser renderer is not the greatest, and all the Cinema 4D stuff I see has a more natural, rounded look to it. If not 4D, then any other suggestions are welcome.

With Poser Pro pack is possible exported pz3 to cinema 4D Xl 7.3, but in the last week crashed every time to exported. The render in Cinema is excellent.

I'm using Cinema 4D XL 7.3 with the Poser plugin (from Curious Labs) and it imports pz3's flawlessly, including materials. You will not be able to pose within Cinema4D, though, since the plugin loads as 'objects' and as hierarchical-boned models. In order to do that, you'll have to recreate the bone structure and body parts. But, if you just want to render, there should be no problem. Also, you will need Pro Pack for this to work, from what I've read anyway.
To get the plugin, got to Curious Labs site and pick Downloads, then Poser 4 with Pro Pack. Here's the link:

Do a search for "wolf359" - he's a serious Poser/Cinema 4D enthusiast. I use Poser with Lightwave. Both have a much better renderer than Poser 4.
Before they made me they broke the mold!

And I know of others too. Importing textures into another renderer is not a big issue. Just don't bother applying them in Poser in the first place, and do all your texture work in the rendering app.

Another advantage of using Cinema would be renderspeed (Cinema has one of the fastest engines on the market) and memory management (i.e. the Mil Dragon freezes on my PC if I try to render him with textures, lately, I have done a scene with two of them in it and some special effects, along with a high polycount landscape, rendered in just 12 minutes - you can find the image by doing a search in the galleries using my nick).

Hi wolf359! I have a simple question: Is there any way to import Poser scenes and retain the bone structure or would it have to be recreated from scratch in C4D (XL 7)? Thanks, BeatYourSoul
wolf359 posted Mon, 18 November 2002 at 4:48 AM
No, the bone structure is not retained as the poser scenes data is simply "hosted" in cinema4DXl. so any changes will have to be done to the poser file in poser and simply updated by reloading the file in C4DXl I consider poser my Character animation plugin for Cinema :-)
