yes

Would you have to install Vicky completely over into P5 then?

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 07 November 2002 at 4:05 PM

No, I still have her in the original P4 runtime directory. Well, she's the Reduced Resolution version of the figure, but I doubt that makes a difference.

It doesn't make a difference. I've used my various Vickys and Mikes from the Poser 4 runtime directory in Poser 5, and they seem to be fine (clothes included), and they render without any problems that I can see. I have other problems, to be sure, but not with them. :) Now if you haven't upgraded to the newest patch, when you save and try to reopen the file, Poser 5 may have problems finding the textures in the Poser 4 files but I think (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure) that has been resolved with the newest patches.

How/where do you point P5 to look in the P4 folders? I know it was discussed before and I am trying to find a post about it but there are alot of posts to wade thru...

You have to go up through the layers of folders until you reach the very top one (you should see two folders: one for Poser 5 and one for downloads, if you didn't delete one), and then hit the "+" to add a new directory or library or runtime (I'm not looking at Poser 5 so I'm not sure what it's called but someone will surely know) and then it lets you browse for the runtime folder you want to point to. It's kind of confusing the first time but very easy after you get the hang of it.

Jelisa has a good tutorial on linking the P4 Runtime to Poser 5.

Oh this is a great tut...thanks for the link!!

CandeeKis posted Thu, 07 November 2002 at 5:54 PM

Thanks very much...the tutorial is a big help. :) (from one that has to SEE how it's done)

I resemble that remark! I wouldn't be able to do it from my description. :( Thanks for the tutorial. Very helpful to have a refernce for these things.

They work fine if you don't use MIMIC. Michael crashes Poser 5 everytime I render a MIMIC file. Haven't tried Vicky yet.

SimonWM posted Thu, 07 November 2002 at 9:15 PM

Well,I might have good news. Seems like the latest Beta 3 has fixed my MIMIC problems. I have been able to render a Mimic Mike file twice without a crash yet.

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 07 November 2002 at 10:02 PM

I had no problem with Mimic in the earlier betas, although I'll admit that I didn't test it with the Millennium couple. Just Judy, Don, Posette, the P4 Male, the Millennium Dragon, Furrette, and the wolf.

I won't show my ignorance and ask what MIMIC is....LOLOLOL...."runs back into the corner"

Ah good, we haven't seen this question at least 2 or 3 days. To answer your question: No, you can not use any existing models in Poser 5. Everything except the P5 models are now obsolete and must be deleted from hard drive or P5 will not install. When you load the P5 CD, it will look for any old Poser models, delete them, reformat your hard drive, and then send an e-mail back to the comapny telling them that you are using a competitor's product.
