Found out that some merchants got a sort-of apology from Tim as a flier in their checks, while others did not. Someone want to fill the rest of us in on this, or are present and former merchants who are not part of the top-seller list beneath notice thse days? /P

Looks that way: Cribbed from the Poser Pro's re-post: Mail out form letter apology wrote: "...We apologize if our method of implementing this new policy caused you any concern, uncertainity or discomfort. It is our hope that we've established enough credibility in our past dealings with you, to be given an opportunity to continue serving you and helping you succeed. We understand that your success IS our success. Thanks, The Renderosity Admin Team" And it has that lovely personal touch that only a form letter gives, too. ;]

It's a rather simple question - no conspiracy involved at all. Just a question. Not sure who or what "Richard Cranium" is a clone of, but it isn't really a gripe; just an observation. I was just curious as to what it said. I assume Micheleh, from your response, you're responding as an official member of Renderosity, and given your flippant answer, I am correct in my assesment that merchants are no longer to be treated equally? I find it odd that you would treat the majority of your merchants this way, to be honest. I guess that pulling my store, pitiful as it was, was the moral thing to do after all. I wish you and Renderosity luck in the coming months... you'll likely need it. /P
Micheleh posted Fri, 08 November 2002 at 5:24 PM
LOL! I haven't been official since August. I was merely paraphrasing the famous Ironbear response to ambigous situations. Seriously, though, I have been shaking my head at the tactless and rude way the "official" responses have been handled, and coming from the retired queen of foot in mouth, that's going some. I don't agree at all with the new rule, or the way it has been handled. My now sideline opinion. No offense to you personally, Penguinisto.
Penguinisto posted Fri, 08 November 2002 at 5:43 PM
LOL - no prob; I had that coming... I completely forgot you jumped the ship awhile back. No offense taken, espcially since it was my fault in the first palce. OTOH, I do wonder where the PTB are on this... even the usually vociferous tutone1234 is nowhere to be seen. I was kind of hoping for some sort of answer on this one, if nothing else the transcript of the letter that was sent. /P

Penguinisto, you agree that we would not send a check to you this month since the amount was low, so a letter wasn't sent to you. Some merchants are paid by PayPal, so they haven't been an email letter yet, and then there were a few that had already left so I didn't see a point in sending them a letter since they weren't merchants anymore. If you were only curious, why not just email the question instead of trying to get people fired up again in the forum? I knew someone would "make" this into an issue, but I wasn't expecting it to be you.
Ironbear posted Fri, 08 November 2002 at 6:31 PM
Pengy nor I nor Stormrage nor others "made" it an issue, Jeny. It is an issue, and it was made one by Renderosity's handling of the situation, as any number of people have been saying all along. I'm sorry that you're not seeing that. I'm not sorry that someone posted their letter elsewhere to be quoted, not that Penguinisto brought the subject up here.

Again this was handled wrong. it should have been a public and private apology. Not just to a few but to everyone who was involved with the store. ohh and just because it fell by the wayside doesn't mean it stopped being an issue. It's going to remain an issue..

Jeny: I realize that the timing may have been weird, and no, I wasn't expecting a letter myself. OTOH, why not just make it a public apology and be done with it? Why the secrecy? Was it at least posted on the Merchants' Private forum? Yes I could've e-mailed the question, but then, I'm not the only one asking here, and it is a question that affects all merchants. I'm honestly not out to raise the rabble, but since the mistakes Tim made were fairly public, why should the apology, such as it may have been, not also be made public? And yes, it was me who asked... I'm not above claiming ignorance, and I'm not above asking about it as a member of the community, out in the open. Ma'am, I would hope that folks would ask me questions about my actions openly and honestly, and by any means they feel comfortable with, and I would certainly do my level best to answer them in the same fashion. I'm a mere mod at Faeriewylde right now (and no I don't want to know the little nickname your compatriots may or may not have given us - I can already formulate them well enough now, thanks much.) Thorne, myself, Isaac, Angeilyn... we keep admin policies as open and as transparent as possible, and with no punches pulled - we just find nice ways of saying the news if it's bad. It prevents the usual raft of conspiracy theories. No, we don't have a store there, but then, even if we did, I doubt Thorne would get all secretive and political about how the site is run. Also notice that by asking out in the open, a straight answer in the open (or even just a reprint of what was posted in the letter) would prevent all these theories from flying amongst the black helicopter crowd. In all fairness, I'm actually presenting you with a golden opportunity to present things in the light of day. Jeff: No offense, but it sucks to be you if that screenie was what I think it was... :) Jaqui's right, though... if the worst that happens is that you make up names for competing sites, then it can't be all that evil in there (I'm curious, though - what name do y'all call DAZ?)
JeffH posted Fri, 08 November 2002 at 11:52 PM

JenyK, just a quick question from an observer: How could you know someone would make an issue out of this? Unless of course you knew that people were not being treated equally and merchants would talk to each other and find out that the apologies (such as it was) did not go out to all merchants. Since if it was an oversight or a delay in mail, then you would be suprised by the reaction, not expecting it. Food for thought. JDexter

Russel, the word 'peepees' was used here for a very short time in the past to refer to Poser Pros I'm sorry to admit, but that usage was very quickly stopped as being in poor taste and is no longer, to the best of my knowledge, used by any of us even in jest. Certainly not amongst us mods and I'd be very surprised if the admins used it any more either. Kevin.

First paragraph from the letter, enclosed with this month's payment: Renderosity implemented a new policy on November 1st that effects [sic, should be "affects"] a very small number of merchants -- about six merchants." (I'm not even going to address the issue of the using the grammatically correct word "effects" vs "affects" in a professional letter.) The point is: if this "new policy" only affected "six merchants", why was it made public... and so badly? Shouldn't these 6 people have been sent a private e-mail telling them about the upcoming change? And then the issue could have been discussed (in private) between them and the admins? Instead, the issue was forced upon everyone, without notice and without explanation. Sides were drawn, vendors got upset, people removed their products and galleries, etc. However, further down in the letter is an apology from the admin team. So, maybe it's time to accept the apologies from the Admin Team and move on? --John

Alot of shit goes on in private forums...it has to...it's the only place we have to vent. WE (Site admins & such)don't have the luxury of going out in public forums spouting off at trolls, and flamers..we have to be relatively buisnesslike...(ugh...I just said THAT?)Why? Because way off in our little forums, we're planning contests, working in the store, trying to entice advertizers...and keep the site going...no money, no site. Greed? Not my call, but unless I am uninformed...(Some)People here at "R" have real offices, and get paid... So yea, "R" is a buisness....and they want to STAY in business...wouldn't you? If you don't like what they DO, then go away...create your OWN site, where YOU make the rules...then tell everyone how EASY it is....its really that simple, because in the grand scheme of things, you aren't going to change it by screaming, and flaming. Find a form where you are comfortable...ask for change in a calm sensible manner, and you might get somewhere...AND on the same note...Admins/Mods need to respond...with more than one sentence....or by moving the thread to OT...because then it LOOKS like you don't care. With 100,000 some odd members between us,( R, PPros, 3DC, etc,,,) there is NO WAY to make everyone happy, and there is NO WAY to know exactly what is the best thing to do/say at any given moment. Every few months or so, there is another "event" that sparks a flamewar or two...Life goes on. It's been happening in these forums for years...and I doubt very much that will change any time soon...get used to it...learn to laugh at it...Listen to Legume....he is wize. LOL Ok...that's it. removes nose.

"...there is NO WAY to know exactly what is the best thing to do/say at any given moment.' Maybe not, but you can be pretty sure that calling members morons and whiners and saying "Screw 'em" just might not be it. It's not just a little venting. They keep coming up with new stupid policies to strike out at people, acting on these words. Therefore, those words become far more important than they would be otherwise. As far as the "if you don't like it, leave" bullshit I keep hearing spouted again and again, it's like this: I pretty much have. But I've been here for two years, invested a lot of time in this place, and it pisses me off to be forced out just because a few assholes go on a power trip. I may not be able to do anything about it, but I'm damn sure not going quietly. In fact, there's a big misconception here, that this is "their" site. "They" may own the hardware and the software, but they wouldn't be shit with out the members. What good is a gallery if no one posts pictures there? What good is a Free Stuff section if no one posts freebies there? What good are a gaggle of forums if no one posts there? All those pictures are ours. All of those forum posts are ours. All of that free stuff is ours. The tutorials are ours, it's our products they are selling in the Marketplace, it's OUR site! Tim could sell this place this afternoon, but what would he really be selling? An empty shell. WE own everything here of any real value, and it's time they realized that. Hell, it's time WE realized that.

I agree perfectly, Jackie. It ain't easy pleasing everyone, and no, I'm not mad about it either... I would almost be disappointed if they hadn't done it. IMHO, the screenshot was posted as a distraction, and the biggest irony of it all is, the reason why was right there on the screenie. After all, it is far easier to be badmouthed over minor crap like mods acting juvenile, than to be badmouthed over big stuff like the CEO overtly getting caught screwing his own merchants, and then caught lying about his reasons why. OTOH, getting back to your point, wouldn't it be easier (and better to the reputation) to give a straightforward answer than to hide it behind a ton of misleading answers and thinly veiled CYA when called on it? Because that is exactly what happened in R'osity's case.
Jackie posted Mon, 11 November 2002 at 8:54 AM
Well X2....remember way back when 3DC was created & that mass "exodus" was going to be the end of "Rosity"? It wasn't. Ya see...if everyone "Leaves" and comes back...and leaves....and comes back...there must be a greater number of "Thems" than "We's"....there are new members here everyday...and sure, there are the (Insert number) of folks who are disillusioned...but not very many stick to their guns...and leave forever (even you, by your own words...fot that matter..."I" still come here & rant..LOL))...this is true everywhere. Members created this site...but it has been a long time since "Rosity" was completely member-supported. Not trying to flare anything up here...but They have capitol...Now...if EVERYONE was to pull out of the store, and EVERYONE was to stop posting, I'm sure it would send a message...but this never happens....& won't happen. There are (very few) members in these forums crying foul, and leaving...if you compare it to the actual number of active members... Like I said...just sticking my nose in...I like being a Commie...I live there...work there, shop there...and nowhere else...because it IS member supported. We don't always do the popular thing over there....its tough...but we try. It isn't easy.

We crossed..."OTOH, getting back to your point, wouldn't it be easier (and better to the reputation) to give a straightforward answer than to hide it behind a ton of misleading answers and thinly veiled CYA when called on it? Because that is exactly what happened in R'osity's case." Yup. :)

"We don't always do the popular thing over there....its tough...but we try." Ah, and the trying is the important part. Here, I just don't see them trying anymore. And no, for the record, I'm not stupid or naive enough to say that R'osity's going to topple. But if it maintains its present administration with their present attitude, I do think it's simply going to rot, die a slow, lingering death. NO ONE is invincible. I mean, who ever though K-Mart would go under? It used to be an american institution, now it's wobbling on its last, sickly legs. If it can happen to them... But my main point is that I don't WANT to see that here. I simply want certain people here to pull their heads out of their asses and actually listen to the members once in a while. I WANT to LIKE this place again. As far as the rest, no, you'll never see a mass exodus, but a few here and a few there adds up after a while. Yes, there will be new blood coming in to replace them, but what about QUALITY? How many of these newbies will come in with the knowledge and experience of a Mehndi or a LadySilverMage or whoever? How long will it take them to get that good? WILL they? Ever? "but not very many stick to their guns...and leave forever (even you, by your own words..." I haven't left yet, not really, although I spend less and less time here lately. If I do pull my stuff and leave, though (which I'm very close to doing), I assure you it will be permanent. My stubborness is legendary.;) Of course, that just means I'll be bugging you more over at 3DC, so their loss is your gain, eh? snicker
Penguinisto posted Mon, 11 November 2002 at 10:21 AM
To be honest, I never said I was leaving... instead I said that I would do what 90% of the membership does in here - lurk and leech. I've completely stopped posting in the Poser forum, but for some reason, I still post here on occasion... I guess that when things die down and hope is finally lost, I'll prolly stop posting here, too :) But no, there's no need to go away... besides, I can tell you right now that it costs R'osity more if you suck down all their bandwidth by posting a zillion images to their gallery, browsing their fora, and in general leeching like a mad dog, than to go away entirely. Meanwhile, I actively encourage the merchants I like to post their goodies in other markets, so I don;t have to buy anything here. x2k is right... R'osity is well on its way to becoming an online CG flea market, and it will eventually die off, slow and sure. Kinda sucks that it has to happen, but what can you do? /P
Maevryn posted Mon, 11 November 2002 at 10:36 AM
LadyJ, You are correct in stating that customers are being driven away. I'm one of them. I won't state how much I've spent in the Marketplace here, but if they have just 10 more people like me that are not buying as a silent protest to the way this situation was handled, they're going to realize a serious dent in their bottom line profits in a year's time. A silent protest from one of the so called "silent majority". The only products that I'll buy from here are the ones I can't find anywhere else and even then I'll have to think long and hard about it. I have no problem supporting a member or business site with my purchases, but I'll be damned if I'll support a three-ring circus with hidden agendas and tolereate snide comments and insults from the ringleaders. This last week's fiasco on the part of the site's administration has proven to be the last straw for me.

X2...Point 1 - I agree. :) Point 2..I know you aren't stupid or naive..just making an exaggerated point...AND...I agree...in fact, I could go into that whole thing as it related to many places I've worked at IRL. (unfortunately) Point 3 - Its taken LSM & Mendhi ...and others YEARS...I daresay to get as good as they are. QUALITY...damn important if you want to survive...I agree...but that is another rant I could go on...I deal with Quality issues everyday. (IRL too) Point 4 - I left once...never to return..pulled all of my gallery....and went next door...but..I always lurked...and really enjoyed C&D...and the Tavern....-sigh- the good old days...where's the chex mix eh? X2000...you can bug us all you want. :) Note: Please excuse typos ...I'm used to being able to edit..LOL

Heh, of course it got moved here, I'm actually rather surprised it lived as long as it did in the other forum. Once upon a time C&D was the dumping ground for all posts that people didn't know what to do with - toss it in there and let them chew it up and spit out the remains. At least it was lively. Seems that OT is the new morgue. Move it, ditch it, bury it, watch it die. Pro-active burial. Thank the spirits this isn't Logan's Run or we'd all be floating around in the air waiting to be vapourised.

I guess that's the sign I was waiting for. My free stuff is still available at 3D Commune, although I'm going to take Renderosibee down and rework him a little, then repost the new and improved version with a new name. And my "x2000's Restaurant" Poser set is available in their marketplace, as well as at Animotions and Renderotica, but it's coming down here just as soon as Clint can delete it.

Unfortunately, in a few months, new artists will not remember any of this and business will flourish here as usual... And with P3 being free on the magz here right now, you KNOW there will be a new flock very soon. Protest is right and good... but it will not hurt Rosity, IMO. :-(

Did we all feel the eath move, and poof, we're in another forum. Like so many other members here, I too have seen alot go on in the past. I still remember the day back in 1999 when we voted on the name for this site. I've sat throught the PFO to Rosity, Rosity to 3DC.....wars and have even changed usernames once, but in the end I still come here and post ocassionally. It's all in fun to me. I don't agree with everything that has been done here, but the reality is that it can't be undone. We can really only hope that a lesson will be learnt here. I have seen many great artists and contributors leave here as well. I was wondering what ever happened to LadyLight and Vethril, they always use to make me laugh and were good to chat with, but I have also seen many great artists come as well, such as ToxicAngel and skooldaze. I guess my point is that as time goes on the past fades to memory, old friendships die and hopefully new friendships flourish. We will continue to learn and evolve as artists and I'm sure in years to come there will be so many community sites that we won't know where to go. In the meantime let's enjoy the ride, stoke up the ocassional fire and keep being inspired to do better as artists and members. I love these little flaming sessions on ocassion, it helps clear the air and relieve the stress of our real world lives.

it is the quality issue that is to me the saddest. i used to learn from looking in the gallery. just looking. so many names are gone in the last 2 years. now, i breeze through the gallery and don't much feel like clicking. i used to be proud to have my stuff up, here....now, no. the old ones leaving and the newbies flocking in, thinking they bought talent in a box, have just changed the flavor of this place....and, no c&d...wow, what does this place have to offer me? I'm real partial to the rhino forum. and, some of the other modelling forums can be interesting too. but, look at how small the modelling galleries are. no big draw, there. looking through the poser gallery the last six months, has been largely so uninspiring, that i have not posted there since late february, or so. and, the poser gallery was the big draw. i agree that this place is turning into a big flea market. me, i will continue to prowl, here, until the day comes....and, it will....that there is nothing left to see. then, i'll move on down the road, too.

once upon a time...not even a year ago, i wanted an apology for being called "poopi". y'all may remember that, from a thread in c&d. i did not get one. now, the term "peepee" is being thrown around....and, folks are getting angry at being referred to as peepees. folks are not feeling like their right to a dignity of some sort is being taken seriously....so, they are not given apologies. i don't really know, is the pot any better than the kettle? you are correct, ib...no one learned. it seems to be the old same ol same ol, just shifting.
