Hello! I can not hold it anymore,probably I will loose another bet again(?) Each time when I post set of 3 images I make a bet with my wife about which of them will be most popular in course of 48 hours. As for today I was sure that "Chello Chellenis" will beat by head others too.Now after about 10 hours I see that "Tumultus3" is most popular and I do not understand why. My only explanation is that thumbnail of "Chello..." does not look good,but when You would open it looks much better than Tumultus3.And the truth is that Tumultus3 looks ugly next to Chello...I have no daubt about it.By the way I was thinking if Tumultus3 deserves to be even posted. Please notice that I compare MY,not others images and I would be happy if someone told me why "spring spiral" is better then "weird spiral" :) I understand that we have so many different tastes ,because otherwise we all would still drive black Ford model T,but in this case I think people take too seriously "numbers of cliks" and when they see nothing nice on thumbnails they do not want to "waste" their vote. But as we all know real beauty in fractal can be seen with large size and large resolution and without compresion. Well even those JPG images on Renderosity does not look like they should be. Then please go and click "Chello chellenis",because I do not want to loose another 5 $ ....lol... Greetings..........Wojtek....... PS.I am writeing this with a smile on my face,then do not be offend,but I think I have a point :)

I have long been curious as to why images get the number of views, comments, and rankings they do, (and to a lesser extent why some get into the Hot 20 and others do not). There seems to be some component based on the poster's identity. High profile posters (HPP) always get a lot of attention; it often seems that a mediocre effort by a HPP gets many comments and accolades, while an lesser known poster may get overlooked for a great image. Certainly there are cases when the thumbnail is 'better' than the large image, or vice versa. Sometimes a thumb gets a lot of views, and no comments. (this may be a case of thumb looking nicer than the image). Or a great image is largely overlooked because the thumbnail is drab and doesn't capture some subtle beauty of the large image. With my own images, many times the ones I like best are not popular at all. I seem to generate the most views with flame images, yet they are the easiest to do. (It consists mostly of pressing ^B; find something nice, then a little tweaking, then slap it into UF3 and try to get it to look solid, maybe add a background.) 'Normal' UF3 images take a lot more imagination and effort, and get far less attention generally. Often images I almost don't think are worth posting wind up getting a lot of views. I find it is best not to worry about it; because I can't predict which of mine (or anyone else's) will 'strike a chord' with the viewers. I think all of us make fractals because we love to make them and look at them. It is nice when others like the ones we make too. But that is more like icing.

Hello! Jocks and MidDayCrisis-You both added some thoughts,I overlooked. Yes sometimes thumbnails look better then images :)and yes-fames are the most popular,probably because these images are also popular "outside"of fractal world.I look not only at fractals,but also other graphic like 2D and photography. Some people have family,friends or coworkers,who know about Renderosity.For now I keep my postings "top secret",because I wanted to see how "Strangers" like my images:),well except my wife nobody knows about it. But sometimes I feel that we all like small circle without any connection to world.I wish fractals were more popular and this site visited by more people,not necessary users only. MidDayCrisis-I think You hit the right string,when You wrote about "distribiution and balance".I struggle with it on "Chello..." 2 days,because it was even worse then now:),but I like colors and spiral looks like beast of prey :) Yes people look at image from technical point of view,because most of them(included me)make fractals too. That is why my dream is to bring more outsiders,who will see just images,not fractal images :) Greetings..........Wojtek...

I must admit I always choose to view a fractal by its thumbnail or by the number of comments... Besides that I have my favourite posters - those who very often produced images that I liked.
The technical standpoint is not my thing - how can I see all this in a JPG? Sometimes a simple one-two-threelayers image has more appeal than a complicated zillion layers fractal. As long as you don't have the parameters you cannot be sure how much "work" is within such an image.

:rolleyes::sad:

of course i have to decide from the thumbnail to klick on it or not. but finally i have often already posted my comment before i look from who this image was created. not always, but sometimes it happens. so i don't completely understand what the meaning of this "HPP" thing should be. i think very simple regarding this. i like an image or i don't. and this is not depending on the creator of it. (except the fact that some people make very nice things sometimes g) ;-) your images, wojteg, are always original and very nice, and i could not decide which are the best. i just like them all, but can not write comments to each one of them. imagine, if we had no thumbnails at all.... we could only decide by the name of the person or by title if an image is interesting.... i think it's better to judge the first look by thumbnail ;-). this is how the internet works (if it does g). :-)
