pizazz, Hey thanks! hauksdottir, How was the Leonid ? I knew it was coming but I slept through most of it - haven't even checked to see if it was cloudy. - TJ (bikermouse)

Lenoids? Here in Colorado Springs we had a clear sky fully bathed in light by the FULL MOON!

Thanks Pizazz got it!
Leonids a very sore subject at this point - we(The British Isles) were meant to go through the shower between 01:30 and 03:00 GMT so Narsil wraps up in his thermals and heads out to the observatory with a load of other loonies.
01:00 - thick fog
03:00 - thicker fog
03:10 - fog so thicK you can hardly see the car bonnet(we are talking pea souper here).
04:00 Back home-Narsil crashes out on sofa to spare waking up wifey
06:00 Wifey pokes Narsil awake - you guessed it, from the house she had a wonderfully clear grandstand view of the Leonids when she got up in the night for a glass of water.
One sheepish and foolish Narsil!!

narsil, Are you sure you don't live in Fresno? I found out Fresno had a good dose of "Tule Fog" last night. Couldn't have seen the forest for the trees even if we had a forest. - TJ

Oh Narsil I do feel for you. We took one look at the time we would see it and just said forget it, we have to get up early, 'im indoors starts work at 7, so it was a definate no no. Why do we always get things like this at stupid times?

I was dressed in fleece, down jacket, and took a blanket for the ground and slipped up to Mt Diablo. With 7 million people here in the Bay Area, I knew that Tilden or the Hicks observatory would be crowded, and I wanted to be further out. There was no time to drive to Yosemite (I had originally thought about going up to the gate at Crane Flat which is 6,000' and walking out to the meadow there... but would have been lying in snow most likely). Diablo was cold enough. Basically, I didn't look at the moon, which left half the sky, and plenty of streakers. The best fireballs with the longest trails are usually lower down anyway. There was a small group on the top of the rise I chose for viewing. From conversation it was apparent the 4 of them were all artists just out of school. So we talked about important things... such as archival over immediacy, art as communication and the shared experience, multimedia versus purity of form and material... with examples from Goldsworthy and other contemporary artists. They had staked out the spot last year. I'll meet them there again next year. Carolly
