I posted an inquiry yesterday about what would be a good app for creating 3D objects for Poser4/5. Has anyone ever tried DesignCAD 3D Max by Upperspace? If so, what export formats does it have that I can use to get my stuff imported into Poser? Please respond soon, as CompUSA has only one copy of it left.

I have DesignCAD 3D v8 back when it was Win95 and owned by ViaGrafix. I think it was transfered to a company in Turkey. It was the only low cost 3D CAD program I could find that used splines for curves. It exports DXF, which Poser will import, but do not bother to texture a DXF. Just export the OBJ conversion from Poser and use UVM. Look on the box and see if 3DS is exported. That allows some texturing to be retained for Poser, but its tricky. Using UVM is just the better way to do texture mapping for Poser. The other part - CAD is very strong for doing geometric objects. Poser 4 will smooth the mesh, unless it is made in a way to avoid that. I don't know if in Poser 5, the per object smooth option only refers to the FireFly ultrasmoothing function, or if we can have geometrics have two surfaces share a common edge and have that edge be sharp. I really liked that D CAD allowed you to make a simple text file from a table of offsets and just plot the points from it. Very useful if you are recreating something rather than designing something.

I have design cad, don't use it. Have autocad 13, don't use it. Have IMSI Turbocad, barely use it. You can get IntelliCad 2000 free here... http://www.cadinfo.net/reviews/i2Kfree.htm See if Comp USA has IMSI Floor Plan bundled in one of the IMSI cad programs. You'll enjoy Floor Plan a lot. IMSI designer is ok probably for the price. Check out the freebie though first.
