I've just downloaded a lot of materials from Bryce Free stuff and am wondering how to get them into Bryce 3 once unzipped. Do they just go into presets? TIA

they go under presets in the bryce folder, then inside of bryce you actally import them

I keep a seperate folder on the same drive as Bryce. This is divided into sub-folders for objects, materials, and sky. I unpack each zip/sit file to the appropriate sub-folder. Then, inside Bryce, I import them into the appropriate section in create, edit, and sky lab. The advantage of this method is that, when I need to clean out odd textures/models/skies I have folders to export my current setting to Paul

I have my presets folders divided into a seperate folder for each material class. Rocks, terrains, complex, etc. As you unzip the files, WRITE DOWN the name of each one, then move it into the appropriate folder. Once in Bryce, look at the list of the mats you've downloaded. Go into the materials editor, and click on import. Browse to the appropriate folder until you come to the name of one you've downloaded, then double click on that file and the materials editor will install it into thge presets
