Courtesy of the cute and cuddly metallic teddy - Ironbear. Still a few things to do, but she's getting there and she's free. :)

And just so you know she's not a figment of a fevered imagination, here she is prowling around in Poserworld's Pillar Room

Is it just me or didn't Billy-T make a Lara Croft Character a while back?

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

Ironbear posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 12:52 PM

Not sure about a character, but Billy-T made a set of Lara gun, holsters and outfit from the movie Tomb Raider as a gift to his customers. I don't think he ever made it available for sale. Don't let Questor put all the blame for this on me: Questor, Noel, Stormi, Depakotez, Xurge, Nikita and a lot of other people have had a hand in this project. We're tentatively shooting for "before XMAss" on posting her to freestuff. I wanted earlier, but the way things keep derailing me... I don't wan't to be any more specific than that. ;]

Thanks. ;] Going to make "Release before Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness" hits the shelves if it kills me. g

Looks lovely, especially oin the temple render. Speaking of which... why's she got a gun in her right hand and her right holster? shouldn't one gun be on her left? (Or does she have more guns than is poroper for a "lady"?).

Ironbear posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 4:25 PM

Heh heh. If you've ever played the game... she's got more guns than is proper for Schwartzenegger. ;]

IIRC I've played I,II, and part of III.... but it didn't look like the dinosaurs were gonna show up in III and I kinda lost interest in the storyline etc. Actually - I was also dissapointed that they hadn't updated the graphics engine. There was still a tendency for some items to penetrate others (poor collision detection) and I got the impression of no OpenGL or DirectX support. Which for a 3D game back when TR III came out was unforgivable...

jerr3d posted Thu, 28 November 2002 at 6:36 PM

She looks awesome!

Attached Link: Angel of Darkness previews...

You may not have played through III far enough: you get to the raptors and the T-rex after the the London and Area 51 levels, in the South Seas areas.. The raptors were nasty, but twin uzi's made pretty short work of them, IIRC. You can never have "too many guns". ;] I think we'll get the updated graphics engine, along with the new game engine in "Angel of Darkness" in Feb 2003 when it hits the shelves. So far... the few advance glimpses of the game look pretty sharp. If they deliver half the eye candy the trailers are showing, should be pretty sweet. To be real, I've never been a major fan of the games, even though I am of the character. I didn't even pick up a copy of TR until TR: III, and then I played through TR3, TR3 Gold, and about half of Last Revelations. I thought the TR movie was a neat way to kill 90 minutes... it just wasn't Tomb Raider. ;] I ***am*** a fan of the Top Cow comics though - and that's the version this character set was inspired by... decided we REALLY needed a Vicki based Lara and dragged a half a dozen people kicking and screaming into the project with me. *g* You know: the old "wouldn't it be cool if... ?" phenomenon? ;]

Damn shame it's gonna be a PS2 game from now on.....

who3d posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 4:42 AM

ironbear: So - conclusive proof tha tthis really IS "all your fault" then? Mmm... must play episode II again then... and then move onto "Last Revelations". As well as playing Jedi II, and playing Poser 5, and...erm...ahhhhhh Dale B: Isn't it going to be on the PC also? (based on their press releases). TR's always been something of a games-console type game, based on the way Lara is controlled. There's nothing to stop developers from creating more than a simple platform game though, even with comparatively simple controls. But my knowledge of the PS2 is somewhat... limited, at best :(

Dale B posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 10:08 AM

Things may have changed, but the last -I- heard was that the Tomb Raider franchise was shifting over to console. Or was shifted, a la Drakan was. Would be great if it was going to be PC....

Ironbear posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 10:41 AM

Angel of Darkess is listed as console and PC release. No worries there so far. Check their site. Although I won't lay any bets on wether the console or PC version is released first or simultaneously. Trying to outgess marketing weenies in the game industry is for suckers. ;]

Dale B posted Fri, 29 November 2002 at 10:44 PM

True enough. Thanks for the headsup on the IB. Now if they make everyone's Polygon Princess so that things look a bit more modern than the last 3 games..... :P

Ironbear posted Sat, 30 November 2002 at 6:25 AM

Heh heh. Yah. No more "angular Lara"? Would be nice, eh? 5000 polygons is what their press says. That's low for poser model standards, but high for gaming characters. I'm thinking that 5000 poly characters plus lots of eye candy = a pretty decent video card: 64mb GeForce or better. [Regardless of what the "box minimums/reccommended" stats say: any long term gamer figures that box minimums are made up from whole cloth, at best] But a decent high end cpu should handle the game engine, no problems.

Ironbear posted Sat, 30 November 2002 at 6:33 AM

PS: I'm kind of hyped about Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, in case it doesn't show. I've read every press release, every preview article, and everything that Core-Design and EIDOS has leaked on it, plus everything that other people have gathered from the gaming tech shows and conventions. It sounds pretty nice so far. And the way things go, if it only delivers one-third to have of what the promos say, it'll still make a damned nice release - Deus Ex level at least... assuming they don't screw it up completely. [Which isn't unknown, but Core-design has a decent record] Considering early 2003 will put them in the same market as Unreal 2 and a few others, I'd at least expect some cool eyecandy. No idea what the gamepaly will deliver, but that's something you can't gauge til you get hands on anyway.
