I'm new to Poser and I'm finding the process of trying to set up groups fairly tedious. Partly because a drag box is just so clumsy - (hey Curious Labs how about a lasso tool in the next version?) Anyway the question I have is this - is there a way of importing objects into Poser with groups already identified? In other words they have been created in another program. -Bernard

Hi Bernard, One program that definitely works for grouping is UVmapper. It it primarily for texture mapping but does more. You select the faces off the 2D map, select "assign to group" give it a name and when finished grouping save the model. These groups will be present when you load it into Poser. It only works with OBJs, and unless you buy the Pro version (there is a free "classic" version) you are limited to working on 2D maps so a complicated model is almost as difficult as Posers way. Ill leave others to list the 3D modellers that do grouping.

3dsmax allows you to create groups. I'm sure just about every modelling app out there does. What did you use to create the model?

Thanks for the info. I'm an Imagine user - which does create groups but they don't export into a format that seems to allow for direct imposting into Poser. Programs like Max and Lightwave are way out of my pricerange which is why I am using Imagine and Poser! I've got the free version of UVmapper - I'll have a fiddle.
