I was reading the P5 forum at PoserPros and found a thread complaining about huge numbers of empty temp files being generated by P5. Checked my own system...28000+ empty temp files. I'm at SR2 Beta4. This could definitely slow down a computer having to deal with that many files whenever it accesses the TEMP directory. If you own P5, you may want to check.

It's being discussed in Poser 5 SR-2 Beta forum as a possible bug. It certainly seems as if temp files related to Poser 5 are a problem.

What temp files? lol and where are they? Are they in poser folder, windows? Where should I check for them, and If I find them are they safe to delete? Thanks :)

If you got to your C Drive, Windows folder, there is a folder inside Windows that says TEMP and that's where the files are. They are usually safe to delete from that file as far as I know. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmmmmm I just looked and there is only a few files there, so I guess mines not leaking! 8o)

Are you sure that you don't have a virus or similar on your system Zen, as this is the kind of thing that they get up to?

I don't think it's a virus. I just did a virus scan and no viruses were found. Cleaned out all the PBxxxx.TMP files from my Windows/Temp. Opened Poser 4 and closed it. Checked my temp and no new PBxxxx.TMP files. Opened Amorphium Pro and closed it. Checked my temp again and still no new PBxxxx.TMP files. Opened AOL and closed it and still no new PBxxxx.TMP files. Opened Poser 5 and closed it and when I checked there were 18 new PBxxxx.TMP files. Yeh! Pretty sure it's leaking from Poser 5.

Yep I had 2954 temp files from poser, deleted those.. opened poser and another 50 showed up. growling wondered why my system was getting slower and slower

found them! using win2000 pro. under documents and settings, in the directory for user ID, under local settings, temp.... 19,800 temp files! wow.

Damn. I have em too. Several thousand of em. I hadn't noticed a performance hit though. This is a bug that definately needs adressed.

Mine wants to write 397 zero-byte temp files. Just checked it four times. I agree. This is an unpleasant discovery.

i have only 22 1kb zlt* files... :( maybe it's because i don't work with p5 any more. ;)

Probably not. it's a damn sloppy bug. I don't see why they won't be able to fix it though, so until then just delete the files every couple of days. As someone who can't even program a decent game menu in dark basic, I have a lot of sympathy. :)But still this needs to be put on the front burner, there is absolutely no reason why P5 should need to create hundreds of files on startup and shutdown. (as some people have reported.)

I have the same problem with P5, hundreds of those PB*** f iles in my Windows XP/document settings/user/temp file folder. I know they are created by poser if only by the creation date which correspond to the period I am using P5.

I havn't found any of these files, and I even did a file search. However I did notice that these filenames look like the format used by PBoost (which I removed from my system right after getting P5 and a dedicated hard drive). By any chance are any of you using PBoost? Could these be swap files being left behind by that program? mike P2 500mhz Poser 5 SR2B4 WinXP (recently upgraded) Running fine

Nope. Me either. Has anyone figured out if the number of zero-byte files written corresponds to anything in particular? I just studied my Poser 5 directory and didn't get any smarter.

Temp files have been around for years, if not decades. Any computer expert routinely deletes them, manually. Or you can find a utility to do the work. Heck some utilities can be programmed to automatically delete the temp files, when you boot up, or before you shut down. This is no big deal.

" Temp files have been around for years, ~snip~ This is no big deal." um, yes it is, since most good programs remove temp files while shutting down. some bad program setup / installation systems don't remove thier temp files. and internet explorer doesn't remove it's temp files. but the majority of apps to delete them on exit. the problem is that poser 5 is creating mass quantities, a different amount of them on each computer, not using them at all, and not deleting them. just a very, very, bad programming practice to not clean up after yourself.
