i saw on a gallery far far away, 50 or 60 mandalas (concentric designs) done with bryce 2. so later models of bryce should be able to do it better. but i'm a real newbie and i've looked at 200 tutes and can only find one of use which shows how to build a kaleidoscope which i'm presuming would help me. it says construct three planes and mirror texture them and set them at what appears to be 60 degrees. but i get lost, and need detailed instruction. can anyone please point me in the right direction?==zenbaby

There is a tutorial on the Hilltop Designs web site for building kaleidoscopes in Bryce. You can also download the scenes which makes it a lot easier. He has a 2 way and 4 way kaleidoscope at the moment. Check out the web site here. http://www.hilltopdesign.com/kaleidoscope/ The other thing you said you found sounds like a multi-reflective arrangement which I have used quite often but is really hard to explain without pictures. You basically make a triangle shape (although it can be any shape) out of planes and make them all highly reflective. Then you position some objects inside the structure and they get reflected off of the walls. You can also make the objects reflective too and they will reflect eachother. Hope this helps a bit.

...depending upon what effect you wish to achieve--meaning, I can't tell whether you are describing a process to actually create the mandalas or a method to "replicate" the number of instances--"reflections" will work--and up until B4 I think the number was limited to "seven" (reflections per object)...and with the number of "instances" that you mention, I wouldn't doubt it if the person who created this image also used the multi-replication feature together with "snap to/XYZ align" (which I think was available even in B2 but it's been too long for me to remember, and I no longer have B2 on my HD) ;-) ...you might wanna check with the Bryce folks at 3D Commune and/or the Yahoo Bryce Community as well... ...apologies for the OT...
