Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 24 11:54 pm)
It sounds like you are applying a texture for one model onto a different model. Each figure, the default P4 male (also called "Dork"), DAZ's Michael, etc. reads the texture information differently. If you have a texture made for the default P4 male, then it will not work for DAZ's Michael and vice versa. If you are using the Poser 4 male, then you can only use texture maps made for the P4 guy. Michael can only use Michael maps, etc. On the female side, the P4 female (also called Posette) takes different maps than DAZ's Victoria.
If you're not sure if you have the correct texture map, here's how to tell: P4 guy has everything on one map as does Posette. Michael requires 2 maps, one for the head and another for the body, as does Vicki. (P5 male and P5 female use 3 texture maps.)
The technical explanation is that each model has UV coordinates which look in different places for their texturing information.
In non-technical terms, imagine setting up a lipstick application device that is set at the exact right height for you. All you need to do is stand there and the device will apply the lipstick to your face. If someone else walks up, the device will not work properly as they will be a different height than you. They may end up with lipstick on their forehead or on their neck. Even if they're the same height, their lips may be thinner, thicker, etc., so it still won't look right.
It is technically possible to change the texturing coordinates but it requires some familiarity with texturing and it takes a long time to do it. (I did it for one figure and it took over two weeks of painfully boring work.) If you look, you may find the remapped models, but they require a bit effort to use. You may want to hold off until you get a bit of familiarity with Poser and Poser utilities.
There is a certain amount of compatibility for sharing texture maps:
P4 female (Posette) - none.
P4 male - none.
P5 female (Judy) - DAZ Victoria, except for the eyes.
P5 male (Don) - DAZ Michael, except for the eyes.
DAZ Michael - DAZ Stephanie and DAZ Aiko, except for the eyelashes.
DAZ Stephanie - DAZ Aiko (all); DAZ Michael, except for the eyelashes.
DAZ Victoria - P5 female (Judy), except for the eyes.
Hope this helps!

Hello.....My Son and I are just beginning to learn about poser and we both love it. Our Question is how does one apply a Texture and Bump Properly. I Know this may sound Mundane but we have been trying to apply the Spidey Tex and Bump adn the Body comes out ok but the Mask comes out askew of the face and nothing we do seems to do anything to move it........I have come across this a few times. Like when I have a texture for a model and it has the full Body, Head, then the Teeth then ETC ETC all on the same JPG and BUM. HELP us understand this concept so we can move on to other wondorous Poser things.
