Hello all, I've been fighting back and forth between RDS5.5 and Cararra, knowing that I wanted one of them. In the end, I picked up RayDream (mostly for its compatability w/Poser). Been working with it and while cluttered its a great app! =) I have 2 questions. 1) What is a good place to start finding solid tutorials for RDS5.5? 2) Given that I got RDS for under $200. How can I upgrade to Cararra now? (This way I can have the best of both worlds) Thanks all!! Falcon

You'd be lucky to find Carrara, it's been sold to Adobe. MC was offering an upgrade fromn RDS5.5 to Carrara for $99.00, but who knows if that's still valid. Does the RDS5.2 poser plugin really work with RDS5.5? -JH.

Just got my upgrade this week, they are sending it out tomorrow next day mail, if I were you I'd GRAB it! All you need for the $99 upgrade is your Ray Dream studio S.N. I had ordered carrara from Amazon and it was $369, thank goodness they let me refuse it and all I paid for is the shipping. Marque

If you can find a way to get the upgrade to Carrar for 99.00 you should do it, prices on full-featured software from Adobe have not been known to be "consumer" oriented. That's OK too, they normally don't release a "beta" product either. I really think MC put the screws to the CAR developement team to get it out the door before it was fully tested with proper user feedback. Try these (may be some dead links but some good): http://www.radiks.net/~lannie/raydream.htm http://www.bilagaana.com/ P.S. You can't make QTVR or IVRM images with Carrara.

Can you do that with the ray dream studio? just got it about two weeks ago and I've been playing in Poser more than anything else. Marque

Just checked out MC website, and could not find where to buy direct from them. Maybe give them a call and see if it is still possible. If I remember correctly, the rebate was'nt a mail-in, it was a immediate price break when I placed my order.<;>

Also, when I purchased RD 5.5 it came with a tutorial CD training pack that leads you step by step. The only literature I could find was the Ray Dream handbook published by Charles River Media. <;)>Span

As a matter of fact the Poser plugin does work. I've been doing some short animations (learing the ropes) in Poser and importing them directly. Some P4 models are a bit unstable in RDS5.5, but so far I'm having a 95% or higher success rate! To all of you THANK you for the links and suggestions. I'll try and post some of the animations and pics this upcoming weekend when I get back from San Francisco. Take care all, Falcon

FALCON2 posted Tue, 30 April 2002 at 1:53 AM
I have no idea where you'd find it now a days, but give a try through www.google.com, their search engine had found some amazing things. You also might want to try eovia.com (the makers of Cararra). So strange to see a post in here since my post was a year ago ::. I work in Lightwave now, but Good Luck! on your search. Falcon

You can find the plugin in the files area of the Raydream group at Yahoo. I think you have to join the group to get access to the files area. The address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Raydream Keith
