Ok... this is driving me nuts! I tried opening a file tonight in Poser 4 and it took about 5 minutes to load. Granted... it's a 12 MB file... but still... I'm running Windows XP on a 2.4GHz with 1 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM drive. One would think this file would load fairly fast. Anyone have any words of advice for the slow?

You may have too many system resources taken up by other programs. What were you trying to open. Some texture maps require most system resources than others. Also, if you've had your computer on too long without restarting that could be a problem too.

On top of what PapaBlue said, it could be "searching" for texture files. Files that have specified locations other than where the file actually resides takes longer to load than ones that are right where the file says it is. Try using Correct Refrence (trust me this will take a while to do) to correct all of the texture refrences on your files. It will make loading ALL things go more smooth and faster.

What's correct reference? Is that a command? Or do you mean to go in and re-specify everything manually?

It means opening your cr2 with a text editor like notepad or with a program . Note pads pretty easy to do . just do a find for " runtime " and replacing the wrong path with the right one . I useally have the windows search fuction open in another window so its cut and paste and goes quickly for me . Its also good to defrag your computer often

I think the new version of PBooost will do that with DEEP EDITOR.... at least... I hope so!

Correct Reference is a program by Hogsoft that searches your Poser 4 library files for incorrect texture references and cleans them up (pointing to the right texture, etc). I'm helping to host it at my website so you can find it there (http://www.thenetherworks.com). On the site sidebar, select Poser 4 Retro and scroll down and select utilities. :)

Honestly, I couldn't survive without Correct Refrence. I change directories for stuff so much it slows things down to a crawl at times. I run it usually once a week to handle stuff I've moved and new downloads.

In P4 the average fully dressed character will take 4-5 minutes to load for me. Add 3 minutes to the length of each additional character you might add after the first (5 minutes for the first, 8 for the second, 11 for the third...) In P5, the same characters take 30 seconds each to load. Don't ask me why the difference.

Ookami, if you haven't already, go to www.microsoft.com and get the Servicepack 1 for Windows XP....that seemed to clear up some of my problems. Scarab
