Is there a tutorial or discussion somewhere on setting up Geometry-Swapping dials, such as those found on the Mike/Vicky Changing Fantasy Suits or the Spywear set from DAZ? A link would be appreciated.

Yes, I have an old tutorial on the Yahoo Poser tech list. It's in the downloads section.

Funny, Jeff. I didn't realise you were Jeff Howarth from Poser Tech. Silly me. I still have a bunch of your tutes and tricks, like Dial-a-prop. mac

Hey! That links dead. Sound like some useful tuts. Anyone know where they are now. The link gives a 404 error. Tried a search for poser in the groups main. I stopped looking around 60 out of 270 this person is poser links.

You were pretty close bloodsong. This should be the correct Link.

I wish dial-a-prop would work outside of Poser 4.03 - anyone tested the concept in P5?

bloodsong posted Fri, 13 December 2002 at 3:51 PM

thanks, scott. jeff, you always taught me that geom swapping in a prop was highly unreliable and not recommended. so i never use it in props. i always tell everybody else not to use it in props. hmmm... but maybe i'll have a chance to give it a try in p5 this weekend, and let you know what happens.

JeffH posted Fri, 13 December 2002 at 4:50 PM

Well yeah, I don't think it works in the Pro Pack and possibly not in P5 either.

ScottA posted Fri, 13 December 2002 at 5:37 PM

Jeff. It works OK in the ProPack. I don't have P4 installed by itself. But it crashes P5 badly. The mouse disappears and only Ctrl+Alt+Del gets you out. I was making my own Geometry swapping .pp2 and I forgot to add the last bit of special code in the channels section that goes like this: geomChan propGeom { uniqueInterp name prop type initValue 1 hidden 0 forceLimits 4 min 0 max 6 trackingScale 0.02 keys { static 0 k 0 1 } interpStyleLocked 1 The prop loaded fine and did not crash P5 until I added that block of code. Of course. The Geomswitching won't work without that block of code. But that's what I've seen so far. ScottA

So is that crash problem only with props? Figures okay?

ScottA posted Fri, 13 December 2002 at 7:05 PM

Yes. Geom swapping in figures seems to work ok in P5. They changed things a bit in P5 so you don't need to load a NULL if you have more than one ERC enabled item loaded into the same scene. That may have indirectly caused a problem with Geom swapping for props. ScottA

Wish I had time to play with that stuff again. Thanks Scott.

I wish I didn't. ;-)
