Even today where surveiliance cameras are all over the place, sometimes the villains use this type of old fashioned equipment to check the routines in the bank, the FBI or the private eyes use it to watch them watching the bank, and the people from the intelligence service use it to spy at both....And then is everyone watching the other watching them.
So here is a Periscope. Ocular and Lens can be moved up/down, scene includes a rivetted hull (could be the interior of a van, spaceship or boat....) to have a set up to start with. Second part of the item gives you a direct look through the ocular which could be animated, eg. simulate a turn of the periscope.
