While Merriam-Webster dictionary says "lay=to place for rest or sleep", her phrase meaning is correct. Only vulgar english "lay=copulate". Lying is wrong, either as an adjective or present participle and it's meaning is 'dishonest'. We appreciate your intention to help but, in this situation you were a bit wrong or just tired.
