NVIDIA vMaterials are a curated collection of MDL materials and lights representing
common real world materials used in design and AEC workflows. The materials are built
with a consistent scale so designers can easily switch from material to material without
needing to re-adjust scale.
Unfortunately though Daz Studio does use iRay, BUT it does NOT directly use mdl files as shaders.
Instead the mdl files are used as bricks in the Shader Mixer.
I have taken these mdl files and utilized them to bring the shaders into Daz Studio. Each MDL file can individually hold anywhere from 1-15+ shader variations, so it can take some time to pick these apart and create the usable shaders for Daz Studio.
This package contains the converted shaders from the Carpaint section and includes:
13 Candy Coat Shaders
31 Chameleon Shaders
31 Metallic Shaders
21 Solid Shaders
I will be releasing the other packages as i complete them.
Enjoy

I can't find that smudges_scratches file in any of my downloads of mdl v1.7 or 2.0 from NVIDIA. The only textures in the paint files are for the chalk paint.

I finally got it working! The MDL files were in the wrong place. Thanks again.

I really do appreciate all the help buy I still can't get it to work. I must be doing something wrong (although I did finally find the smudge file lol). I'll keep trying. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I tried that but the textures file did not have that particular one for smudges and scratches.

NVidia's setup is wrong. Directory Carpaint is created as a sub of Paint. Move ...\vMaterials_ 2\Paint\Carpaint to ...\vMaterials_2\ In ...vMaterials_2\Carpaint, create a directory called Textures. Move file "smudges_scratches_A_rough.jpg" from ...\vMaterials_ 2\Paint\Textures to ...\vMaterials_2\Carpaint\Textures. The shaders should work perfectly. Thanks for the awesome shaders Mertext!!

ccbn213 can you manually point DS to the file when the error pops up. It should be located under .../Carpaint/textures in the mdl directory. that file should have installed automatically with the nVidea files.

I moved the file but it made no difference. Apparently, I have no "smudges_scratches_A_rough.jpg" texture file and they won't work without it. Oh well, thank you anyway. All of your other files work great for me!

ccbn213 look in C:\Users\****\Documents\mdl\vMaterials_2 and see if the carpaint folder is located there or if its inside of the paint folder. If its in the paint folder move it to directly under vMaterials_2.

That's what is confusing me, too. I installed them like all the others but they don't render anything. Just white. I even uninstalled and reinstalled them but still nothing. I can see them but when I try to use them, it says they looking for /vMaterials_2/Carpaint/textures/smudges_scratches_A_rough.jpg. None of the others do this. I'm stumped.

ccbn213 when you say they dont work how do you mean. They are all done the same way as the others, so it confuses me that some are working and tyhose paticualr ones are not.

I can get all your other shaders working but I can't get these car paints to work.

Thank you, I was so confused by the MDL thing in Daz!

Coolness!! I love the mdl shaders but as you said, daz iray will not use them... just another feature of Iray that daz has not activated.
