I've been away from RR for a while now, developing my skills and, of course, with everything in my real life, outside of photography. I'm 24, I live in Kentucky, and I'm very pleased with the progress I've made over the past few years in my photography. But this is a field where you never stop learning and trying new ideas, and I felt it was time to reconnect here on RR and learn even more!

Great subject. It looks like a "Bob Ross" oil painting (except for the power lines of course!)

from what my friend tells me is the economy has hit harder in kentucky than other places. I love old barns and the character. you captured everybit of the character and the textures are super fine. I think I would not go in there, maybe a large bird landing the roof could bring it down

excellent image and i'm glad you left the lines in as a contrast. Vik9740 is from NE Kentucky and says the same thing about work there. That area is mostly mining but it's still been hard hit. beautiful work Krista!!!

This is a great capture. I agree, it does look like an oil or water color. You've got to appreciate the "old ways". They were the best. Aloha

I like that! How it bends downwards to the right, the barn looks so 'exhausted' from preventing to collapse! Great capture! Have a nice day, Krista.

Beautiful capture, Krista!!! yeah...farming is DEFINITELY not what it used to be across the U.S., and here in Kentucky. so sad. :(

there is a story in it. excellent and characterful photography !!!!!!!! #:O) !!!!!!!!

A beautiful image - although it looks like it could tumble down in a brisk wind! There's still some farming here in eastern Colorado, but so many farms have been sold to housing developers. It's nice that some places still cherish the old ways :)

The rickety barn looks great - and ready to tumble at any moment! Excellent illustration to your words.

I love old buildings like this ... they are so full of character. Beautifully composed

It's an excellent study in contrast (old/new as you pointed out). I wonder if power lines, representing the present/future, is too easy to miss. I saw the "big" line but took a second or two to find the other. And, reading your narrative "led" me in the right direction to more fully appreciate the image and idea...but I wonder if the presence of the power lines without your narrative would have been enough. As an example of the kind of glaring contrast I'm talking about, your lovely barn in the foreground and a modern city skyline in the background.....I'm glad to see you "scouting" around your local area with your camera. You may be surprised to learn just what photo is waiting on you out there. Keep up the good work!

Imagine the stories this old barn could tell.

real good shot of this old barn

I love it! Old barns are so neat. There are country roads here where they can be seen every half mile. I never tire of them, but as you say, they are an "indangered entity." A wonderful post!

Love old barns and other old buildings, quite a contrast to the history that we are losing.

Beautiful shot, I like the way the bright green leaves of the tree in the foreground contrast with the red roof of the barn. Very well done! :)

I think that leaving the powerlines in the photo was a stroke of genius. It certainly provides a nice contrast against the age of the structure. (btw - My Canon also has trouble with contrast in some images, so you aren't alone.) (V)
