Description
I saw a short clip on the local news this night, about a positive, creative and
expressive way some people choose to combat terrorism:
http://www.werenotafraid.com/
This website was started in England, within hours after the subway bombing
attacks of last week. The basic idea of the site is for people to make a
STATEMENT: that they're not afraid of the terrorists - and they do it through
the sharing of photos/pictures of all kinds - mainly of themselves, their
families and pets. Just as a 'this is me and i'm not afraid of you' statement. The objective of terrorism is to install terror - fear - into innocent people, and if we show that we will not allow this fear into us, then we ARE fighting against and winning over the terrorists.
I thought it was a fantastic idea - so effective, yet so simple and non-violent
and positive. So I sent 5 photos to them (including this older photo of my three cats), maybe one will get posted. This
site has exploded in traffic and support from all over the world - already
they're showing over 2,000 pictures in their galleries (right now it's on
gallery #95). They also set up a 'shop', to order T-shirts/mugs/etc, to support
the costs of running the website and about 1/3 of the money collected goes to
the Red Cross London Bomb Relief Fund, for which they have already collected
almost $10,000US.
So if you like the idea, spread the word and send some pictures!
