Description

So heres the second of the demon FX shots from this film I've been helping out on. There's actually wuite a lot going on here, as you can see from the original plate below. The actress' eyeline was wrong for starters, so I've had to paste in and animate new eyes, so as she actually looks at the demon himself. Also, to give the demon more screen space, I've had to shift the foreground her over to the left a bit, meaning the plant and BG also had to be rebuilt. The creature also runs his fingers through her hair as he passes by, meaning a lock of Cg hair had to be composited in (viewable in the final movie). Then there's the particles, the heat signature, etc, etc. All in all this shot uses up about 40 composited layers to achieve the final look. I don't think its turned out too bad, considering I had no access to the set to collect lighting data, and I had to guess at the camera's position, focal length, etc. So here's a word of advice concerning VFX, guys. Make movies in either live action, or all CG, save youself the hassle of trying to mix the two.

Yay i'm first in the cue for commenting on this one. The compostite looks great, lighting and colour match perfectly by the look of it. Love the cheats (her eyes etc). Not sure I like the actual model though, the demon's teeth and eyes seem out, too bright maybe. Can't wait to see if it looks this good on the motion version. Well it probably will knowing you!
