Description

Mind Field

Today's post may seem a bit dull to some of you, but I wanted to share something with you that I find endlessly fascinating. The ceiling of my bedroom has the "popcorn" treatment, so has many little bumps in random patterns. I took this photo late afternoon this past weekend, with the lighter end being by the bedroom windows. A CD laying face down by the window provided the touch of color. :) Anyway, whenever I lay in bed and look at the ceiling, I see different shapes and forms. I suppose this is something akin to what happens when you look at clouds. My imagination picks forms out of the random patterns. Every time I look up I see something different -- never the same thing twice. Usually I see faces, but I can see animals, vehicles, plants, you name it. I realize it is a bit hard to see on the screen, so if you click HERE you can see a full size detail of this image. I never fail to wonder that when I wake up and open my eyes, something new greets me. Take a minute, relax, let your eyes unfocus and just stare at the photo for a moment. What do you see? Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for visiting and for your comments.

Very interesting upload today Kort.I'm sure I'd see many things in that ceiling as well. It's kind of like a Rorshack(?) test isn't it?Different people will see different things.Actually it reminds me of some of the postmodernist art at the Met(MOMA).If this was a painting there it would probably be worth millions, lol.Any way, cool upload.Have a great weekend! :)

'A painting worth millions', love that thought by Margana. Well, I see something more deadly, atomic fall-out. If we take the hightlight on the botomas being the rising sun peaking through a few morning clouds, then the the ceilings textures becomes the fall-out that is raining from the skies. Interesting never the less. I'll have to come back and see what other wrote. Have a great weekend Kort.

A great minimalist image, I agree with Egmont that the bottom could be seen as a rising sun but I would prefer to see the top darkened a little and the overall colour changed to a deep blue and then we have a sunrise with a feeling of hope rather than deadly atomic fallout. It is really good to see people doing entirely their own thing rather than trying to provide what is popular. Congratulations!!

Wonderful composition! The same thing happens to me when I have a moment to rest and let my mind and eyes explore hidden lines, forms, and shapes that leap out. The hard part is to find the same thing the next day :-( Well done indeed!

Wow, yes! I always can be fascinated by the patternless fills of these things, no obvious patterns that can be found, just a chaotic but beautiful distribution that spreads over the area, something to keep staring at for a long time (sounds like my sleeping room when I cannot sleep... ;). Excellent work, Kort, very original!

Ummm... the only thing I could see was a disfigured cat - and once I saw that I couldn't see anything else... But sure, I know what you're talking about - I would probably see something entirely different if I went back to it later (and hopefully something nicer...) At first glance a pretty dull picture - but it grows on you...

I don't know about others, but I have to wonder if this is not a phenomenon specific to artists? I see things in patterns all the time too, yes your ceiling is ripe for the imagination! What a great way to wake up! Thanks for sharing!
