Description

" It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open . . ." Frankenstein - Mary Shelley This was my entry for the Gothic Lovers contest. I tried to pursue a 'frankenstein'-like idea of a mad scientist providing his own heart to animate his mechanical creation. An idea both dark and romantic :) The major part of this scene was rendered in Vue, with some elements (such as the 'hearts') added with Painter and Photoshop. I will try to make a second version of this image if I find time and inspiration. I still find issues with the lighting and composition. As usual, comments are welcome.

There is quite a story here in this wonderfully crafted image! This is the kind of illo that an editor would buy, then hand it to a trusted writer and say "Here's the cover. Now write me a story to go with it. Have it by two weeks from Wednesday."

Wow, this is spectacular, Agiel; what a wonderful pose, and the concept, materials, composition, the whole thing tells the story superbly. Only real light issue I see is the light coming through the stained glass window; the narrative says it's 1 am, but the light seems quite bright; maybe darkening it down will help? Anyway, a really wonderful image!

This is incredible...the story, the poses...absolutely everything. I think Djeser makes a good point about the light through the stained glass window, but otherwise, the lighting looks very nice to me.

Wonderful concept, very detailed. I like the anatomy posters. A whole story condensed into one single scene. Can't believe it didn't even get a mention in the contest! Great art!

Thanks for the comments :) I should have mentionned the anatomical drawings come from the Master - Leonardo Da Vinci. And regarding the lighting of the windows, the quote is taken from the original Frankenstein story - this image is just inspired by it and should not be taken too literally :)

A great image and an interesting take on the story. I never really liked the novel itself, but the movies were good. Or at least some of them were. I still can't bear to think about the Branagh/Deniro version. My god, it was awful! :)

I don't understand why this picture were so underestimated in rankings. Composition is interesting and render is nearly perfet. May be too subtle.
