Description

The rocks are covered with cockles and seaweeds. Soon the flood-tide will inundate this area and I have to move to remain dry. Incredible to think the sun and the moon actually cause these tides! The gull seems to remain on the watch while I stroll around this interesting place. Keep watching, birdie! Hmmm, the proportion of the responsibility of the sun must be really insignificant comparing to the moon! But you're right, it's not zero! Cool shot...

I have never heard of an ancient explanation of the tides. There is the "end of the earth" myth about the Gates of Hercules and the whirlpool that protect America from hordes of seamen but tides, no.

Very interesting to see the "underwater" side of the rocks when the tide is out! A nice contrast with the beautiful blue sea :)

That's some drastic tide differential...the moon phases really does affect the heights here in the islands also...but I don't see this dramatic change. Great shot here...Aloha~

Tide-zones are amazingly diverse areas, ecologically speaking. This is a great survey of one such place!
