Description

The breathtaking beauty of Lake George, nestled in the southern area of New York State's famous Adirondack Park region, began taking shape more than a billion years ago. At that time, an ancient, salt-water sea covered a large portion of the northeastern United States and Canada including the area we now know as Lake George, New York. Then, over a period of hundreds of millions of years, Mother Earth began to stir. In the process, a series of geological changes occurred that forced Her crust upwards to form the beautiful mountain ranges surrounding the Lake George area of today. These early changes were followed by a coating of glacial ice, thousands of feet thick, that slid over the Lake George area about a million years ago and carved out the Lake's basin. Today, the fresh, crystal clear waters of Lake George, which are a genuine testimonial to Mother Nature at her best, can be traced to an abundance of subterranean springs that constantly feed into it. In fact, the waters of Lake George are so clean that many lakeside residents derive their drinking water from it. It's no wonder many generations of people have truly enjoyed her beauty and cleanliness. The lake is approximately 32 miles long and is nearly 3 miles wide. Much of the shoreline is unsettled, and through federal and state conservation efforts, will remain so. Small communities surround the lake, each lending its own unique style and way of life. Thank you so much for your very kind comments and rankings on my previous two pictures in this series. :-) ((((Hugs)))) ~*~maggie~*~

You have chosen and photographed the foreground very carefully and very skilfully Maggie...it turns a usual lake/mountain scene into a beautiful landscape shot. the slighty 'banked' POV also adds that little something special to this work!

Pssst...you can tell me...you snatched that presentation from a broshure (spellcheck the swede again please) or something huh, LOL. Fascinating reading though. And another beautiful shot of your wonderful home. Perfectly composed with that rock and "weed" in the foreground and the mountains in the back...seperated by that lake. Ill keep nagging you though....just wish it was a tad bigger. #;o) Have a great day!!!!

Mags sis, you've captured the beauty of Nature in her finest cloak of colors. Truely beautiful, the wild flowers in the foreground are a stunning contrast to the blue of the lake... excellent!!!!!!!!

hehehe... Andreas!! Ok..you caught me! I actually had to look up the width of the lake and found this nice description. ;-) You can read more about it at http://www.lakegeorge-ny.com/ but I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce...honest!! LOL And dear Gerhard, I tried making the mountains more horizontal but then the lake was flowing uphill!! Ack! Just a weird Point of View looking down at the 32 mile lake from 2000 feet on top of a mountain. :-) Marlene..hmm. Not sure on the download time hon, other than I did some postwork on the sky to remove a darn smudge and then added the frame. The picture isn't that big but I didn't compress it much either. Thank you all for your comments!! :-) (((hugs))) ~ maggie
