Description
It is just 60 years since the first atomic bomb was detonated at the Trinity Bomb Site in New Mexico (16 July 1945). Those who saw the detonation of "Little Boy" over Hiroshima on 6 August of that same year, and lived to tell about it, recalled that the flash was eerily beautiful, displaying all the colors of the rainbow.

Bhagavad-Gita "If the radiance of a thousand suns Were to burst at once into the sky That would be like the splendor of the Mighty one... I am become Death, The shatterer of Worlds." Great Image, love the energy.

Great image, Toby. And it's good to remember those 2 important date; just to teach our children and grandchildren and from a historical point of view.

Most impressive!

What a beautiful image, even with the threatening meaning.

Toby - it's fabulous! The radiating "waves" with rainbow colors and slightly ominous shading are a great representation of the event. May we never forget. Well done!

I love this image with the beautiful waves and colors. I was born in 1944 so I don't remember these two events but I do remember the atomic testing in Nevada in 1951, the dead sheep, and the gov't telling us the testing wasn't the cause. Hmm, and the gov't still can't be trusted to tell us the truth ... how sad.

A powerful image Toby!

A wonderful image Toby! Did you know that you can visit the trinity site two days a year? Second Saturday in April and again 2nd Saturday in October, I believe. Some of the greenish blue gradient in here matches the color of the tiny glass like pebbles that you can still find on the ground there at "ground zero" but aren't supposed to pick up. :)

Toby, This is a breathtaking image! Every time I see old film, or movie effects of a detonated atomic bomb, I think it is a terrible beauty. That something that looks so beautiful could be so horrible, have the power to destroy mankind, is so sad, and frightening! I was born in 1951 and grew up seeing bomb shelters in my home town, and we used to have bomb drills in grade school, (for all the good that would have done). Truly an amazing image, thanks for sharing it...Leanndra

Exeptionally beautiful image. But I hate associating it with an atomic bomb blast.

There is a documentary called "Trinity" that contains footage of atomic explosions never before released, including the Russian H-bomb test in the Pacific with a yield of 57 megatons (the largest device ever tested). It is unbelieveable--stunning and sobering. Well worth a look if you happen to run across it.
