Yes, that image is consistent with the stories that H.P. Lovecraft wrote. I don't know if you have read anything by Clark Ashton Smith -- he was a contemporary of HPL and they corresponded by letter. The Eldrich Dark site www.eldritchdark.com has much of CAS writings, poetry, art, ... online. If you like HPL, you should also look at CAS.
