Description
Two "flying barrels" engage an unidentified flying object in 1953. The incident was later officially reported as an encounter with a russian experimental aircraft.
Aircraft, smoke and UFO are 3D-objets rendered on a photo background. Image inspired by an image created by Fredrik Alfredsson in 2002.
The first sketches for the J29 were made in late 1945. The task was to design an aircraft around a given engine, the De Havilland Ghost. With a central air intake and the pilot sitting ontop of the engine like on a horse, the design was almost given.
The J29 prototype flew on Sept 1 1948, and the first production aircraft were delivered to the F13 Wing in Norrkoping in 1951. In total Saab built 661 J29, and they served the Swedish Airforce until 1976. The J29 made Sweden's Airforce the 4th most powerful in the world at the time.
