Description

This was made using Maya's software renderer, and an Ambient Occlusion pass from Mental Ray. Photoshop was used to composite them together. In order to fake the candle's SSS, I colored the AO pass to a warm gold and applied it over the candles. The scene is from the great anime mystery series Kindaichi. This is what the main menu for the (fan) DVD release will look like. In the mystery, Hajime is called to the school at night by his classmate, who claims to have found out the seventh secret of their academy - which is rumored to kill you if you discover it. He gets there, but doesn't see her anywhere. While searching, he sees (across the school and through a window) the girl, hanged, over the candle/symbol scene. When he gets to the room, the body, candles, and symbol are gone. The first time I made it, I accidently made the symbol a pentagram, then when I rewatched the show, I realized the error and had to redo the entire thing. It was fun the make, though. The titles were postwork as well.
