Description

Sentinels was created to try out some different painting techniques. It's a fantasy-image, so yes, the water's meant to be that way (hence the story) :) I started by drawing a sketch in Photoshop and tried to follow it as closely as possible when making the photoreal rendering. I've uploaded the initial sketch to my website if you're interested and want to compare: www.thomaskrahn.com I hope you like it! Comments and critique is most welcome :) Best regards, Thomas

Very strong work; the vision of the sky in this tight landscape is great. To quibble, the image here doesn't tell that story, a much harder thing to do than the juxtaposition of text. I know I'll get killed for this comment, however...

Some excellent painting Thomas! Dragonfly, why would you get killed for your comment? Thomas asked for critigues and comments and I am sure he welcomes them when made in the proper spirit of helpfulness.

Amazingly beautiful!! Awesome work. The clouds just pop right out at you. Its like you are really looking at a distant storm heading towards you. A beautiful paradise retreat. :)

This is beautiful work. I love it. Just a little thing I would do differently. That lightning bolt hiting the ground dosen't quite fit in with the rest of the image for me. I think I personally would have it and others running through the clouds themselvs. But that is me, and I only wish I could even begin to create an image like this myself. Well done, beautiful work and my vote on this one. Keep it up and I hope to see another one soon. Love to know how you create the lighting though. Stunning:)

This is FANTASTIC! I love the sky, all the way down to the water colouring, the mountains, rocks, sand.. All simply wonderful fairytale land stuff.. Only thing that doesn't seem quite right to my mind is the lightning? Or are they glaciers? Somehow they don't match up to the rest of the painting you've so excellently done here. That "bowl" effect makes it even more of a stunning picture...

Breath-taking! And very believable! I just love the clouds hanging low and heavy with portent!! The colors are rich and very realistic!!! Your landscapes are always superb, and this is one of your best!

OK, you are not helping me at all with this paranoid feeling I have that I'm using words like "Beautiful" and "Wonderful" way too often lately. :-) I really enjoy scenes that mix the power of churning skies with elements of peace and calm and this is a particularly beautiful one. Well done.
