"You're welcome to stay the night while your car is being repaired. There's an awful storm rolling in and I wouldn't want to send you out in it..." Oh, how do I get myself into these things?, I thought, looking up at my host. I, Phaedra Devine, librarian extraordinare, was just minding my own business when my car up and died in front of this rambling expanse of Gothic stone and mortar perched on top of a hill. Of course, I couldn't get a signal on my cell phone, so I climbed the hill, hoping someone would be home. It was getting dark and I couldn't see very well. I tripped and fell into this deep moat. There was something in there besides me, for I swear I saw something slithering towards me. I started screaming and from nowhere HE appeared... Mr. Tall, Dark and Thirteenth Century fished me out of the moat and carried me inside his castle. I was drenched, so he gave me a spare bathrobe to wear while my clothes dried. I don't think it will take very long, because this place is hotter than a sauna. My glasses are getting steamed up! My mysterious rescuer listened to the story about my car and well...I guess I'm staying. He doesn't look like the sort of fellow who's used to being disobeyed. "I'll have my servants prepare a room for you, but I must caution you not to go wandering around by yourself. A young lady could find herself in trouble, if she's not careful..." I swallowed and nodded. Just looking at him steals my breath away. My host seems charming enough, but there's something odd about his eyes. And those fingernails!
